Playing for change: Peace through music

This was a story on Bill Moyer's Journal Friday night the 24th about the organization PLAYING FOR CHANGE: PEACE THROUGH MUSIC. The whole story is about 18 minutes long, but worth the watching. The eloquence of Bill Moyer and an uplifting story about people throughout the world coming together through music. I especially loved Grandpa Elliot. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

That was very uplifting indeed! Thanks so much for sharing

Thanks analogman! I have tears watching this.

It's been a tough weekend for us, almost walking out of mass last night because our church told us to make abortion the #1 issue in the upcoming election. It was at the top of a list of 10 "social" issues to take into consideration. We used to be told to worry about moral issues.

I guess since I voted early for Obama, I'm paving my road to hell.

My husband sarcastically said he'd just go to confession and say sorry I sinned and voted for Obama. His reasoning was to do this every 4 years or as needed!

We are angry and hurt and are considering finding a new church but it is not right - we shouldn't have to leave our church. The bishops are wrong to tell people how to vote, although the said they weren't telling us how to vote - but if it looks, walks, and quacks like a duck ......

I think I'll listen to this music again ..............

Rita, I am so sorry this happened to you. I kinda know how you feel. Yesterday I attended a Family Reunion that is held in the community center that is connected to the church where my Mother goes.

Because of the proximity and he is also a relative, the local minister is always asked to Bless the Meal...and wouldn't you know: in the grace he said before lunch, was the reference to the election. He was not quite as direct as your priest, but....I almost left--his bringing politics into saying grace affected my enjoyment of the rest of the day.

As I said on another post, I just do not understand the relgious aspect of the Republican Party....

At lunch my girlfriend said her pracher had said it was Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve!!!! I told her," #2 is gonna send me to hail....The Lord will forgive my other bad habits, tho right? Cheers!" politics, religion and different degrees of sin..OH MY :funn:

We've gotten a little off track from my original post intention, but here goes. I was engineering a recording session of a gospel group consisting of 3 guys and 1 woman, all cousins. When the guys started to gang up on the lone woman for taking a little too much time to do a solo part, she told them to back off. After all, where would all of you guys be if it wasn't for women. I commented that we would have had a little trouble coming into this world without women. They all begrudgingly agreed. At that point, the preacher (as in minister) who was producing the session said...and I kid you not..."we'd all still be in the garden of eden if it wasn't for women". All of the guys in the session cheered.

That was 5 years ago and I have yet to work at that studio since.

There are forms of spiritualism that you can associate yourself with that don't promote archaic ideas.

We cannot and should not legislate morality!!

GOD ENJOYS A GOOD LAUGH!
After all He did invent humor

There were 3 good arguments that Jesus was Black:

1.He called everyone brother

2.He liked Gospel

3.He didn't get a fair trial

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Jewish:

1.He went into His Father's business

2.He lived at home until he was 33

3.He was sure his Mother was a virgin and his Mother

was sure He was God

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Italian:

1.He talked with His hands

2.He had wine with His meals

3.He used olive oil

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was a Californian :

1.He never cut His hair

2.He walked around barefoot all the time

3.He started a new religion

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was an American Indian :

1.He was at peace with nature

2.He ate a lot of fish

3.He talked about the Great Spirit

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Irish:

1.He never got married.

2.He was always telling stories.

3.He loved green pastures.

But the most compelling evidence of all - 3 proofs that Jesus was a Woman:

1. He fed a crowd at a moment's notice when there was virtually no food

2. He kept trying to get a message across to a bunch of men who just didn't get it

3.And even when He was dead, He had to get up because there was still work to do!

If anyone takes offense at this...sorry, get over yourself!!!
