If you want to really get fair, do away with all the exemptions and deductions that allow those with high incomes to avoid paying taxes.

This is the crux of the problem, IMHO, and this includes the exemptions and deductions extended to corporations making billions of dollars per year. Until we correct all that is wrong with the tax code, the measly cuts or raises we inflict on the majority of US taxpayers won't amount to much more than just another diversion.

How can you argue that Reagan's tax cuts didn't rescue our economy after Carter? I'm more concerned with reviving the economy than how much more some other family makes.

Unemployment peaked at 10.8% in November of 1982.

Reagan had been in office for 21 months.

As a small businessman, I was paying 13%14% interest during the Reagan "rescue".

But you were paying more in interest under Carter and the inflation rate was out of sight. Ya'll can bash Reagan all you like, the proof is in the pudding and his success is history, not speculation.

Some of the big banks and automakers are on government welfare, that's for sure.

GM looks to have finally stopped slacking off and found itself a job. I get the sense though that they're a chronic problem child, they'll be back in a decade for more help after they run their wells dry (again).
