President Speaks at GOP Retreat

I have been down on President Obama lately. But like MC said in this thread, watching this reminded me of why I voted for him.

The Republicans KNOW they made a mistake by:

A. Inviting him to come.

B. Letting the cameras run.

this was a good thing for everyone involved......especially for the American people. If a dialogue comes out of this process that leads to compromise between the WH and republicans in congress then maybe we will get a decent healthcare bill in addition to other important legeslative initiatives. i don't think that making this meeting today into political gamesmanship is wise ; to the contrary we should be hoping for their success. As you can appreciate , we have monumental problems that must be addressed or else we will wind up as a bankrupt nation. let's hope this first step can lead to a bi-partisan effort so we can get some long over due things done in this country !! I applaud the President and the House republicans. Let's hope that the senate will also follow up with a give and take with Pres. Obama.

Excellent post!! This was the first time that the opposition party has invited the President to attend this type of meeting. I am please that the invitation was offered and that President Obama accepted. I haven't had a chance to watch the whole thing - only clips - but do believe that this was good for everyone, especially the American people as you noted. I am sick and tired of political gamesmanship( especially the blame game) and would like for both sides to work together.

I think they need to do something like this at least once a month!
How much would it improve the level of civility if our Senators and Congressmen were talking directly to our President and in full view of the public about what is going on - on a regular basis?

Amazing how much I can actually learn when they are talking DIRECTLY to each other and about the REAL issues instead of playing for the cameras.

I thought Obama made a very good point about how politicians (and he emphasized from both parties) are so quick to vilify the other side that they leave themselves no room to work together or compromise - even when they want basically the same thing.
