Walton County, Fla - On Thursday, Walton County Board of Commissioners had their first initial workshop to discuss the county's 2017-2018 budget.
The purposed budget is set for almost 20 million dollars higher than last year's budget.
During the workshop, the Walton Board of County Commissioners set the tentative millage rate for a little more than one-hundred and fifty million dollars. Last year's budget was at one-hundred and thirty million dollars.
(The millage rate, is a rate that will be charged for the value on property taxes.)
Public Information Officer, Louis Svehla said that even though there is an increase in the budget, it is based on the fact that property values have increased in the area.
Svehla then explained, "There is no change in the tentative millage rate. The millage rate was tentatively set to be the same. What that means is, from this day forward, from the time they made that motion, it cannot go up. So, it will not be any higher than 3.6363 for the county, which is the same rate that it was last year."
Walton County has two more budget planning meeting before the final 2017-2018 budget is set.
The next meeting will be on September 11th .
