Proposed Trans-US oil pipieline - a disaster waiting to happen!

It's the demonizing of teachers that really gets me. What better way to create uninformed masses and stifle dissent. They'll try to get away with anything under the guise of states' rights, which is nothing more than oppressors wanting unrestricted freedom to engage in bullying tactics.

What the heck are you talking about?
No demonizing of teachers involved - just 1,600 miles of ticking timebomb being proposed for our heartland.

I think this thread is turning into a general rant... and I like it.

I was sort of hoping the thread could be about a major issue that people needed to be aware of and take action on.

These morons already tried to get a safety waiver to build the pipeline thinner and pump the oil at higher pressure.

It crosses several major rivers, like the Missouri, Red, and Platte - which means any spill will eventually end up in our Gulf.

Upon completion, the Keystone Pipeline System would provide 5 percent of the current U.S. petroleum consumption needs and represent 9 percent of U.S. petroleum imports.

Take your pick, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, and Iran, or Canada.

Independent of what the writers of Mother Jones think (to which I wouldn't grant more than a small paper weight of influence anyway) if TransCanada can show it's safe and will produce the amount of oil they claim it will, I say build it.

I will add that it's very unfortunate that this source of crude has "the potential to undermine America's clean energy future and international leadership on climate change" ...but we need the resources. Plus it'll keep Canada's single payer healthcare system afloat for another half century. They could use the help.

Also, I'm not sure about anyone else here but If I had a choice between filling up a supertanker and shipping it across the Atlantic or Pacific, or a deep drill oil rig sucking oil out of the bottom of the gulf or a pipline across dry land that can be turned off at the flip of a switch, I'll take the pipline, thank you very much.
