Rabies and human contact!

Re: Rabies and human contact

Alot of what that states is what I observed. I will mix some bleach and water and spray the area where the raccoon was. It was on one spot on our driveway and laying several places off of our driveway. I will call the vet tomorrow and see if they want to give him a distemper shot. They only gave him a rabies and bordetella shot this past year because he is over 12. Said they would give the entire shot requirement this next December. The article stated that it affects young dogs mostly. You think there is any risk to him just from sniffing down in that hole? He never came in contact with the raccoon. We have had several dead in our yard. Most run over but one other was dead on its belly way down in our front yard. Cannot explain that one. Thanks jdarg.

Forget it. First of all, your dog was vaccinated, so the odds of your dog getting rabies (slim in the unvaccinated state) went to none. And no humans caught rabies if there were no bites involved. It was most likely distemper, or the coon could have had a neurological disease just like humans have-the wiring is the same. Quit wasting good bleach :funn:

lady.
I have been known to have distemper, so send some bleach my way

 Good to know. Don't know about the distemper though. Of course, don't know if it will be enough to convince the other half. He had me let the dog back up. He barks his fool head off in the basement if you do not let him in. Barks until you do. He is already over 12, chances of him catching anything now I am sure is slim, even distemper???
