Red Bay Rally

As expected the RedBay rally went off very well. The food was good, the music great and the fellowship was awesome. We did get to hear from the candidates again. I have been to most of the forums and can say that some speaking has got better and some has got worse...probably getting very tired. It was the first time we got to see all three candidates that are running for Browns State representative spot. I think Brad shinned there. In the CC district 5 race Hudson and Braunstien (?) tried to tell us which one raised the most money for charity. In the sheriff's race Johnson even showed up and spoke. The best part of those speeches was Adkinson changing his platform again. This time he was talking about having his officers in the communities more, what a good concept. I think Cornman has been promoting more community policing since he got in the race. I guess Adkinson asked him if he would share his platform. I think last week it was him being a motivator and inspiration to his troops. I guess after everyone found out the truth about his attrition rate he had to shy away from that one. By the way has anyone else been getting bombarded with his many mail outs, must have been three or four already. I also noticed in the last one of those he uses accountable and available, that also sounds like what Cornman has been saying all along , accountable and accessible. Maybe he should join Cornman?s camp since he is talking the same talk now. I think the most improved speaker has got to be Johnny Smith in the CC district 3 race. In the beginning he had trouble with it but seems to be a little more comfortable now. Well anyway if you did not make it out to RedBay you missed a good time.

The Red Bay rally was great, after the fish finally came (yum)...but I noticed something yesterday. The candidates are EXHAUSTED. Not just "my" candidates, but ALL of them.

I attended most political functions in 2004 and 2006 in order to support particular candidates, and I've never seen it willy-nilly something-every-night and three things per day on the weekend like this before. While I've been halfway facetious about returning to the "old" political rallies, I'm really in favor of that now - two per weekend, all over the county, scheduled far in advance. Or, have two to three MAJOR forums, scheduled and well publicized. I'm not advocating laziness, just a reasonable pace - as the pace of this one has been ridiculous.

Boy was that food good, though! ! It reminded me of the "dinner on the grounds" that we used to do at my little church where I grew up in Alabama.

Dread Clampitt was great, too. Tim and I were talking about how they are so universal...appreciated by old and young.

On the topic of similar platforms -

Does this truly bother people? I think it has been said before, but how many ways can you really say the same things? With this many candidates in both the Dist. 5 race and the Sheriff's race, repetitive platforms are going to be the norm. Most are just buzzword focused anyway.

Not sure if your post was meant to truly bring up this issue, or was designed more as a critique of one candidate, but either way this issue seems to be relatively minor.

It seems to me all the Sheriff Candidates have said the same things. Brown has had community policing in his bio, along with being accountable, available and accessible. And, I think Rick has greatly improved his speaking. He has always been an approachable guy and has always had the knowledge and experience; now he is saying it.

Watchertoo, I'm not sure why you think that Adkinson is copying Cornman regarding accountability and accessibility, because everyone of the Sheriff's candidates, except for Mr No Show, Ralph Johnson, have been preaching that since the first public forum.

I wonder what the Sheriff's candidates thought about the band playing the "drunk driving song."
