Red Rose Black Ribbon Wedding & A Funeral?

New posts

OK last night 23 September, Grayton Beach....absolutely incredible surf, beautiful sky....swimming against the tide, current and undertow...get this....while I sat with my butt planted in the sand...awaiting the moment...you know the one... something suddenly caught my eye...a bobbing thing...appearing to struggle for life...as it was swept Westward bound...driven by the current...

I popped up and ran along the shoreline, West, trying to determine....was it a baby turtle? A crab? No, something red.... I dashed into the be sea....and grabbed the darn thing...ready for this??? It was a single red rose...absolutely....a rose, long stem, artificial but nice quality :) ...with a black satin ribbon tied around the stem...

I can only imagine a funeral....or perhaps...someone's ashes tossed out to sea...and then a rose...to be swept along the coastline...in the current....to me?

Where did it begin...how far did it travel...a moment ago...1 mile... there was no one insight from the east...a wedding taking place at suset to the west....

I wish you had been there....the clouds were dark and mysterious...the sun incredible as it sank into our sea...and suddenly around 6:45 as it disappeared, the dark and ominous clouds...filled with the most incredible oranges, reds, purples and pinks you've ever seen... were you there?

 What an experience! I had a similar one in 1991 sunset Grayton Beach. I had forgotten until you wrote that. Maybe not forgotten, just tucked away. It was a personal loss. Thank you for helping me to remember that memory. Your story was beautiful. You on the beach at sunset, the rose with black ribbon would make a wonderful short story!

Every sunset at the beach during fall and winter are memory makers. It gives us that time to be alone on the beaches that spring and summer take away.

Wow..That is so touching. I read this to my daughter and had to stop because it touched me so. I Got myself back together and finished reading it to her. We both loved it. Welcome to Sowal and know you have a friend here anytime.

Sweet story, Aleigh. May well have been someone's funeral at sea. If so, it's nice that the person's memory touched a few more people and led to a sweet mystery.

Paula everytime you post and I see your tar I get so hungry for that sandwich. It looks so yummy.

 Kat

Hi Kat: I get hungry when I look at it, too. Maybe D&Ks should have a signature BLT type sandwich? Maybe you have it already and I'll have to try it when I come back to SoWal in November (sadly, I'll miss the soiree/ho down).
