Sgt. Padgett, age 28, of DeFuniak Springs; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg, NC; died May 8 in Tarin Kwot, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when his unit was attacked by enemy forces during combat patrol operations.

Our recognition of Sgt. Padgett & his family's sacrifice is the highest of compliments anyone could give to this ordinary man who fought for his country and gave his life and became anything but an ordinary citizen.

OK everyone, time to step-up for Sgt. Padgett and our efforts to win the hearts and minds of our friends in Afghanistan. I propose we have a toy drive as was requested by this fallen hero. I will be happy to spearhead the campaign and go toy shopping and deliver the goods to the fire station. If you want to donate, send me a PM.

Just an update from our county e-mail: Tim's body is to have being brought to DeFuniak via helicopter from Eglin at 10:00 this morning. There is to be a procession to Clary-Glenn Funeral Home. Visitation is from 5 - 9 p.m. tomorrow (Tuesday) evening at First Methodist Church of DeFuniak (on the west side of Circle Drive), and his funeral is to be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. As he requested, burial is to be at the Glendale Memorial Nature Preserve.

Excellent idea Skunky! A SoWal toy drive. Let us know what we need to do.

A good friend and co-worker of mine was Timothy's cousin. Today I watched two hueys bring his body into the Defuniak Airport. Where his family, friends, fire department, emt's, paramedics and patriot riders watched. On the way to the airport from the hospital, I watched lines of people, grandparents, parents, children and dogs assembled on the sidewalks with their flags held high or their hats off to honor our fallen hero.

Never have I seen such a beautiful dedication at such a somber occasion. I held my flag up to my chest proud and yet sadden at the sound of the bagpipes playing "America", as the honor guard carried his remains to the awaiting hurst. The tears rolled freely down my cheeks.

It was breathtaking. It humbled me and made me feel even more proud to be American and honor someone that kept me safe and at peace.

My heart goes out too the Padgett & Whiddon family members. His mother as any mother was crying yet held her head proudly. Knowing her son did not die in vain nor will he ever be forgotten.

Hoorah Hoorah Timothy, You may have left us in body but your spirit will always remain close to our hearts.

:welcome: Welcome Spotty Dog. Thanks for sharing. It sounds like it was a beautiful service.
Grayt idea, skunky. If we have some new toys to donate in Tim's name, can we just drop them off at the Defuniak Fire Station?

My heart and prayers go out to Timothy's family, friends, and community -- and deep appreciation to Timothy for his loyalty, dedication, service, and sacrifice.
