Republican bows out of race

New posts
He has been in the leadership of the party since the 80's. And he has been saying dumb things the whole time.
The point is that every party has it's factions and extremes. But that is not a bad thing. Lord help us if the Dems lose their moderates.
The Republican problem is different. They are not trusted because they abandoned what they campaigned on once elected. Palin seems to really believe what she says which is why she has appeal. People will forgive shallow if the person is real.
they will forgive her resignation in order to make money and advance her prospects? is deceiving alaskans real? sounds like brother charlie.

Really?? I think the fact that she believes the crap she spews is why she's such a dangerous freak.

As of this afternoon, Scozzafava has chosen to endorse Bill Owens, the Democratic candidate. This sure will make the NY-23 vote more interesting. Wonder what backlash she will face from the republicans...

She's already been lashed, whipped, and tarred and feathered by her own party for not being Republican enough; for being pro-life, and anything considered liberal. Palin set up camp in upstate NY sending smoke signals...drop out.. drop out. Do as I did. The polls just last week had her in the lead. They set up a massive campaign against Scozzafava. Her own party... and when she was selected by them, no one said as much as boo. Scozzafava won't be the last. Palin and Co. are going after anyone not deemed Conservative enough. if you've never been to this area of New York, believe me, it is not much different from Alaska .

I had heard that this area of the country was about as red as you can get. I haven't followed the race but it seems odd that a very liberal republican was running in this district. Plus the election being ochestrated by the white house.. the whole thing just seems really really weird to me. It sounds like Hoffman is the right man for the job for this area. What lead to this crazy show down over Scozzafava is a mystery to me.

Overall the I find the Corzine / Christie race is far more interesting.

You're right. The whole of upstate NY is blood red. I've been following this race because it is interesting to see where the Republican party is headed. Scozzafava was elected by her party peers, yet thrown out under the bus. She was used as an example. Bottom line-- the party is sending message: If you are not Republican enough, don't come to the party.

Look out, here come the conservatives!

In what could be a nightmare scenario for Republican Party officials, conservative activists are gearing up to challenge leading GOP candidates in more than a dozen key House and Senate races in 2010.

Conservatives and tea party activists had already set their sights on some of the GOP’s top Senate recruits — a list that includes Gov. Charlie Crist in Florida, former Rep. Rob Simmons in Connecticut and Rep. Mark Kirk in Illinois, among others.

Activists contend that the only way back to majority status is to embrace the conservative principles that the party jettisoned during the past decades once it became too enamored of power. To them, the issue is less about ideological purity than about the compromises they see the party’s Washington establishment making and what they contend is a lack of support for conservative candidates who are deemed unelectable by GOP solons.

“New York 23, on some scale, is the first battle of a larger internal Republican debate over how to define the party,” said former Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio, a conservative who is challenging Crist for the Senate nomination. “They want us to vote for their candidates, but they don’t want us to run for office.”

Rubio’s race is one that many on the right point to as the next New York 23, a contest where conservatives and tea party activists are in open revolt about Crist and the national party’s decision to endorse him despite his embrace — literally — of President Barack Obama and his stimulus package during a Florida visit in February.

Rubio has won nearly a dozen county GOP straw polls across the state and is rapidly becoming a darling of the tea party movement.

I really don't think a public witch hunt of moderate Republican candidates (that both Dems and Repubs vote for) and replacing them w/ candidates so conservative they alienate many Republicans is the way to get enough votes to win..........................

It's less of a winning strategy and more of a "drive voters to the other party" strategy IMO.

And if they bring in Palin to campaign it's like Christmas coming early for Dems!

Exactly! Someone who gets it. Not only that, it's going to turn off potentially good politicians from running in the future who work well across the fence.
