SanDestin Hilton Basketball Blowout

Freeport High School will host the annual SanDestin Hilton Basketball Blowout this Monday through Thursday with the boys playing at the high school and the girls playing at Freeport Middle School. A strong field including local teams Paxton, Walton and Freeport (boys and girls) will be competing. Boys games start 10:00 am Monday. It would be great to have full gyms each day to support a local project that pumps much needed money into the local economy.

I wish I'd known about this earlier. I come over frequently on weekends from Daphne/Mobile to relax here at the beach; moreso in the winter season to avoid the tourists and summer family crowds. I had some Hilton points to burn, so it was much to my dismay when I checked in the Sandestin Hilton that it looked as if it were 4th of July weekend here. Noise, crowds, families abound everywhere! It's disasterous! I may head over to Seaside tomorrow.

I think Okaloosa and SoWalCo have become so flooded with tourists that there really is never a quiet time to come to the beach anymore. This is disappointing. I'm sure it's good for the local economy but for those of us that are semi-local and drive an hour or 2 to get away for some peace and quiet, it's the pits.
