Save the People and the Sea Turtles!!!

then don't sign it. buy some big shovels and dig to China like many others are attempting. Let someone fall in the hole and injure themselves, or let an endangered species like a sea turtle, fall into the hole and die.

 Hey guys, I got ugly emails on this one too when I forwarded it out. My email was re-forwarded to someone else and they let me know how they felt. :idontno:

:clap:I completely support this! At the same time, though, I believe education is the best way to get the point across. I've seen kids using regular sand buckets to dig those huge holes!!!

This will only be our 3rd time down to 30A and we haven't seen any information about this need while down there. I think it would be a great idea for EVERY vacation rental to have a pamphlet of some sort with this information. When we used to vacation at Holden Beach NC, our house had info on sea turtles (like filling in your holes, turning off your porch light, etc.) along with providing a red sleeve to put over flashlights. They also had weekly classes that were great fun for the kids. This may already be going on and I just don't know about it since we are new to the area but just thought I'd chime in. Love those sea turtles!! And healthy human ankles!:D

I believe it is outlined on the beach access signs. Unfortunately most people don't read those. :(

just signed it....thanks for posting!

I'm not sure why people would get mad and object to requesting that the cheap plastic big shovels being removed from the shelves in this area. It is not a ban on the sale of shovels. If people need a real shovel, they can shop at Frank's Hardware and spend their $20. It is better to do something on a voluntary level, to stop the digging of the huge holes on the beach, than to have the gov't step in and make hole digging on the beach illegal, like they did on Isle of Palms in South Carolina. Maybe something along those lines should be noted in the emails sent to encourage people to sign up.

Big shovels are on the beach. I saw a full size spade just this morning. And it isn't just the kids digging. There is a hole at Ed Walline that I saw a guy in his 40's digging that he was standing in chest deep. There were kids all around the edge playing in the heap he was making.
And that hole is still there today.
My wife and I bury holes at sunset, but that one is simply too much. It would have taken us an hour and we were tired from burying holes for over an hour already.

It is true that this idea of getting the local stores to stop selling the big plastic shovels, won't completely stop people from digging the big-@ss holes, but it will decrease the number of holes being dug.
