this is a question i couldn't answer for a friend...here goes...if a person lives in Wild Heron, which is in bay county, can they send their children to Bay Elementary, which is in Walton?...thanks for your help!

Call and ask Walton what their policy is regarding waivers into the district, and if Bay is giving waivers out of district at this time. There's a certain amount of mobility allowed from county district to county district if both the sending and receiving district are in agreement. Until there were overcrowding issues in eastern Niceville, it was common for kids in Villa Tasso or Choctaw Beach to waiver out of Freeport Elementary and waiver into Bluewater Elementary because it was closer to the family's home than their county school was, and there are parents in Destin who send their kids to South Walton HS instead of Ft. Walton Beach HS like they're zoned for.

It's not always, and there's a certain risk that policy will change from year to year if enrollment patterns among the 'natives' change. But if the policy is in place now, and you're willing to accept the risk that your kid may lose their waiver and get sent back to their home county schools two years out, then it may be the right decision for your family.

I know people who live in Okaloosa and send their kids to Walton schools through the waiver program, so I would think Bay might have a similar deal w/ Walton.
