Scott scraps Orlando to Tampa rail project

I like zero debt load. Without that, you can have all the bullet trains you want, despite what a waste of money they would be. What was our interest payment last year? 350 billion? Start there, then we can talk about your boyhood fascination with trains.
so no duality with the military, no bids, unfunded pensions, troops stationed in countries forever, weapons we don't need, never ending wars of occupation, va disability claims forever....i see, not a problem

Of course. Now that this boondoggle has been rejected I expect to see stories on we would be discovering oil while building the train. Dollars would be falling from heaven if we built the train. It is really going to get thick.

Yea don't worry...with Fla. teachers being laid off by Scott, and U.S. math and science scores dropping to 12th (China being # 1) there will probably will not be anyone in Floirida smart enough to figure out how a high tech train even works.

It thus becomes a self-fulfilling delusion--why not just forget gasoline, the grand kids can just return to the good old bicyle.

Then just about anybody could be school superindendent. If that's not welfare statism, what is?

only in america do we pave highways at the expense of mass transportation, fight wars and foul our coastlines to preserve the status quo.

I wish politics aside, someone could analyse exactly where the status quo will be taking us in the next ten years.

The status quo has been taking us where we are today since 1996 through to 2006.

Since the 2007, status quo went to status quo "squared", which is where we are now. Many would agree that we are in a "bad spot".

To help us get off the "train" before 2014 gets here (this is when some really big changes will happen due to fed govt legislation passed last year), we need to cut all local, state and Federal government budgets by 40% and pass this savings to the tax payers.

This will allow tax payers to pay for their own healthcare, the enhanced education of their children over and above "govenment" schools to get their kids to where they need to be educationwise, as well as enable tax payers to invest in their own small businesses.

I mean what US citizen should settle for a "New Normal", when we can reduce government spending and invest it into our citizens, our children and small businesses to build a new growing future.

And for those who believe we should continue to pay the same amount of taxes to take care of the less fortunate here at home, I have a solution for them to consider and support.

Let us cut US Foreign Aid to all countries by 75% for a period of 5 years and use that money to look after the needs of those Americans who can not help themselves.

you must have no kids in school

You're talking pretty crazy. My guess is you have no idea what kind of numbers you are talking about.

As a taxpayer who pays for their own health care and runs their own business, I can safely say that your proposal has no basis in reality.

The less fortunate are a minor expense - despite what you think, corporations and millionaires get many more handouts.

The amount we spend on foreign aid is minuscule compared to what we spend on tax cuts, subsidies, and the military.

Cutting foreign aid by 50% would save us $17 billion. Letting the Bush tax cuts expire for people over $250K would have saved us $54 billion.

Cutting Iraq & Afghanistan troops to 60K - $51 billion.
