Can anyone tell me anything about the area? I have not been able to find a whole lot about it as far as what to do and where to eat. It seems like you have to go to one of the other towns to do anything. Can anyone give me any real "scoop". Thanks-Taterbaby

Hi Tater,

I would disagree with the above. We have a house in Seacrest and while I'm not an expert on the fine dining (must ... get ... babysitter ...:bang: ) we find there is plenty to do around here. Really! Restaurants, ice cream places, lunch places like Seacrest Cafe and Wild Olives. A fountain for the kids to play in. There's a little bit of shopping and of course the beaches. Our development has a huge lagoon pool and we frequent Publix at Carillon (which is actually very close).

Target just opened at Pier Park. :clap_1: :clap_1: I really like being on this end. Having Alys Beach and Rosemary so close means we have some nice amenities, and I expect they will only get better.

It is an easy trip when you do want to get to Seagrove or Seaside or Grayton ... we do it regularly. But it is quieter here. Last night I watched the most beautiful sunset from our roof deck, and it was absolutely silent for at least a few minutes. No cars, no people, one or two birds, that was IT. It was amazing.

We're on that side of 30A. Our favorite things to do are:

Fonville press (Alys Beach) for coffee in the morning (sit outside - wonderful area to sit and relax -- bring a book to read). They'll probably start their Apres Beach get-togethers on Friday evenings soon, too. Wireless Internet inside and out.

Wild Olives (Rosemary Beach). Nice food there. I heard that you have to try their cheese platter -- expensive but someone said well worth it. I haven't tried it yet, but will.

Seacrest Cafe (Villages of South Walton): Good food, the carvel ice cream is very good if you go with kids. Wireless Internet inside and out.

Fountains at the Villages of South Walton: They light up at night and "dance" to music. Kids LOVE running through them and we LOVE watching the kids run through them. You can get something to eat at Seacrest Cafe and then bring it to a table and watch the fountains. It's so joyful.

Rosemary Beach: Sugar shak for ice cream and a few excellent restraunts. I enjoy walking through Rosemary Beach and looking at the architecture. If you're there during spring break or summer, you can go to free concerts at Rosemary Beach outdoors and free movies outdoors in the summer. Also in the summer, there's a market outdoors about once a month I think.

Deer Lake State Park (about 1 mile away): Absolutely amazing, stunning, unlike anything you've ever seen. The dunes are awesome. Free/no bathrooms/state park.

Shades: I like it -- new sports bar atmosphere -- wireless Internet access. I REALLY like the oyster po'boys.

Ride bikes and explore from Rosemary Beach to Deer Lake State Park.

If you decide to venture onto 98, you can explore Inlet beach and there are a few good restaurants right on 98 at the end of 30A (The Terrace, The Spicy Noodle). If you get really wild and want to go into Panama City Beach, we love Thomas's donuts. It's a good old fashioned donut shak-dive. Warms my heart just to think about it.

Most of the stuff to do is at the Villages of South Walton/Rosemary Beach. But it's all soooo close to Seacrest Beach. (Villages of South Walton, as far as I can tell, is part of Seacrest Beach).

That's more than enough to do on any vacation. We usually just go to the beach, pool, porch, fountains, Fonville, Wild Olives, Deer Lake sometimes, and then a few other places to for lunch or dinner.

Hope that helps.

Just wait until WaterSound (formerly known as WaterSound North) gets all of their retail space up and running. It is supposed to be as much space as Destin Commons currently has  and that should help to anchor that eastern end of the stretch of 30A. Lot prices start at $160K.

Tater, I know all of these "towns" get confusing, but it might be simpler to think of them as a neighborhood or community, rather than towns. Seacrest Beach (if that is the community to which you refer) has several places to eat and shop within a short walk or bicycle ride.

What TFT, Paula, and SJ said. It's a great area. As you drive west on 30-A from Seacrest, you can blink your eyes and be in Seagrove, Seaside, Watercolor........

It's as close as you want to be and as far as you need to be. ;-)

Thanks so much-we have rented a house there for the last week in June. We did Disney over New Years and are really looking for a quiet place to enjoy some time with our three kids-girl (13) and 2 boys (9 and 11) but want there to be places close by that I would feel comfortable going with my daughter. The boys have some major fishing planned (haha) and we are looking forward to doing some shopping-maybe spa one day. Anybody have any really great spa suggestions that won't break the bank? We would go anywhere on 30A for a great one for a reasonable price (haha). Other than that we just want to "be" for the week and not have to rush anywhere. Disney just about killed me-don't get me wrong-I LOVED IT-WAS A TRIP OF A LIFETIME -but I needed a vacation from the vacation!!!! hahahehehahh My daughter loves coffee shops-thinks they are really cool-she is a 20 year old stuck in a 13 year old body!!! hehaheheha Thanks for all the suggestions so far!! You will LOVE it, relax and enjoy.

If you're looking for relaxation, 30A is wonderful. Despite what people say about how busy some areas get (Seacrest area is one of the quieter areas), as long as you have a pool, porch, beach nearby, you get to decide how lazy or how busy you want to be. As for fishing, we had a couple staying at our cottage in February/March and he said the fishing was fantastic... among the best he's seen. There was even a guy who came to the beach regularly from Panama City Beach because he said the fishing was so much better than in Panama City (he tried Pier Park area). When I was there for about a week, those guys had a big bucket of very good size fish. They fished right off the beach. You'll want to check on the fishing license rules.

As gotothebeachmom said, Seacrest Beach is as close as you want to be to everything, and as far as you need to be. Right now there's certainly plenty to do within a mile or two of Seacrest Beach. In the future, Alys Beach and Watersound will bring even more restaurants/concerts/shops/activities.

Have a wonderful vacation. And let us know if you have any more questions at all.
