Hello everyone,

Here is an update on a recent event. Monday, *the lift station near the bridge at Watercolor failed. As a result, sewage spilled into the canal that runs behind Seagrove and into Western Lake. My understanding is that there was a power outage and the back up pump did not kick in- it had been accidentally left off during a previous maintenance check. *Neighbors immediately complained of the smell and Regional Utilities responded quickly. (the lift station is Regional?s responsibility) Heres where things are.

Regional Utilities is taking regular water samples. As of this afternoon, both Regional and the Walton County Health Department have indicated that the *samples are still not satisfactory. Warning signs have been posted in various areas of the lake. Currently, it appears the sewage has gone no further than just east of the dock at Watercolor. They will continue to take samples throughout the weekend and will re-evaluate the health risk the first of next week. In the meantime, the signs will remain over the weekend. *If signs are needed elsewhere on the lake, they will be posted.

Currently, according to the Health Department, the greatest health risk is on the north side of 30A and just to the east of the Watercolor dock. *As this is a popular kayak and canoe area, I wanted to get this information out to you for the weekend. It may be a good weekend to kayak or canoe another beautiful lake.

BOTTOM LINE: If you go canoeing...don't forget your paddle

There is quite often septic tank overflow from the houses on the lake at Grayton. Should be no worse at the gulf end than usual. I just got out of the water there and it didn't stink more than normal. You have to build up an immunity. :rolling:

 ...remind me not to fall into Western Lake ever again!!!
