Shannen Doherty went way out of her "90210" comfort zone for her new show on Great American Country, "Off The Map with Shannen & Holly." It debuts 10 p.m. Friday.
The "Holly" in the title? That would be Doherty's onetime "Charmed" costar Holly Combs. The two actresses and off-set friends ventured into the Deep South for a month last summer on a road trip to remember. They were in Miami over the weekend to talk about their experiences.
No itinerary to the South would be complete without a stop in Florida. Among the activities: entering into a fast paced high stakes poker run in Destin; flying over the Gulf waters in a tiny Cessna in search of turtles, dolphin and whale sharks; and canoeing in Grayton Beach.
"That was great — the white sandy beaches, plus the key lime martinis and key lime pie," recalled Doherty, who has ventured into reality television before. Back in 2012, "Shannen Says" on WEtv documented her wedding to celebrity photographer Kurt Iswarienko. "I swam in the ocean at every chance I got, flew a plane, went on a boat, saw dolphins, went with the volunteers who protect the sea turtle nest and ate a lot of good food."
