Beach Fanatic
My mother-in-law walks Blue Mountain Beach most mornings in the 6:00-6:30 timeframe. She has been saying that she sometimes sees a decent sized shark and that she believes it's the same one each time.

She was lucky enough earlier this week to get a photo.

It's been my personal experience that when you see a shark- even a big one- even in relatively shallow water that the fin doesn't break the surface. So evidently this guy was swimming in really shallow water (probably caused by a sandbar) because the fin and tail are both obviously visible above water.

I actually saw the same thing briefly in the bay at Eden Gardens a couple of weekends ago. Made me glad I hadn't brought my canoe like I had planned...

is that a great white?

I presume you kid.

But nonetheless, from what I can see of the tail I believe it is a bull shark.

Don't worry- he won't hurt you. He's a local.

My jury is still out on this one...
My inclination leans towards a hammerhead shark. Look at how tall and narrow the dorsal fin is and the angle of the tail fin on the picture above and compare it to this...

A bull shark has a much broader dorsal fin and it is much more of a regular triangle shape. See below...

But what do I know? I'm just throwing it out there for the purpose of discussion...;-)

Looks like a hammerhead. While trolling for Cobia we saw several Hammerheads. One was the size of a car. We definitely have a lot of em.

I think you guys are right. I'll ask my MIL if she can help identify for us presuming she's had a closer look or will again soon.
