I’ve heard that businesses have closed their doors for good? I wonder what will happen to our beautiful town and what will change by the time we are allowed to leave our homes? Has anyone heard of businesses closing?

I'd be interested to know what you've heard but don't want to spread rumor. How would we know unless we've spoken directly with an owner or employees firsthand? And since most businesses are closed now we can't go by and talk to them.

I've been out and about a good bit lately. But never near people. :ninja:

I'm struck how it feels like an off season 30 years ago. Remember when we had an off season? I could fish on the beach all day and only see a few people. Except there is still a lot more traffic on the roads now, and back then it was rare to see a new house being built unless you were in Seaside. Now it's hard to be anywhere near the beach and not hear circular saws and nail guns.

I worry about neighbors and friends who have homes, families, and businesses in our "beautiful town". But I also know those who have been here awhile have been through some tough times and will get through this. And I know we'll help each other. I've seen it and appreciate it.

Hello Truman,
I heard from someone in the vacation rental industry that three related businesses have closed in our area. I don’t know first hand but it made me worry more about the business owners and the many people they employ.
I’m definitely not trying to spread rumors, I just wanted to have an idea as to what to expect when we all get back to work. I know people that own restaurants with a huge monthly overhead and was curious about restaurant closings as well?
I’ve lived here for over 18 years now and have grown to love our town and the people in it. Right now all I can do is pray.

Hi Kurt,

Thank you for your positive outlook. I’ve only met you once or twice during the 18 years I’ve lived here and wanted to say that you are a true gentleman and your wife is a kind, caring lady. I didn’t realize that you’ve lived here for 30 years. I often wish I would have found this town a few years earlier.

Side note: before I realized that this virus was going to be a pandemic... I made some big purchases for my business to get myself off to a fresh start. I’m ready to work and I’m sure like all people, are ready for this virus to run its course or a vaccine be discovered sooner than expected.
Fortunately I have a beautiful wife as well and being home with her has been wonderful and it feels like we are getting some much needed time together.

Prayers to our community and I hope we all learn something positive from this experience.

I wouldn't be surprised since the rental industry is so volatile and has been more frenetic than ever lately. There have been a lot of startups in the last year or so. A lot of new companies, mergers, acquisitions, etc. So I would expect some shakeup. The actual business is the underlying rentals and owners themselves and hopefully the market will return to stability and no foreclosures.

We have quite a few small businesses come and go every year. Right now many or most are closed or working from home. I am seeing a surprising number of restaurants stay open and changing how they do business overnight. Thankful for them. Restaurants are the best of people. Let's support them!

Hi Teresa,
I was hoping that our incredible restaurants would remain. The first suggestion ( when we first moved here ) of something wonderful to eat was the “oyster blt” at Vintij. My beautiful wife and I have been dining there ever since. Of course the “crab cakes” at the Red Bar ( and Louis Louis ). So many restaurants are local favorites and help add to the flavor of our town. Thank you for suggesting the option of the pick-up or delivery.

Stay safe
