DeFuniak Springs Moving Forward with New Skate Park

Happy to see that DeFuniak Springs is building a new skate board park. Sowal now has the new Play Park too. This is good news for the county's young citizens and their parents. Much citizen involvement and donations with each effort.

Time for a public pool in SoWal. It would have been nice to have it especially now- maybe we can ask BP to build us a pool?

A pool was in our original "wish list" for the play park, and it should by the government center/SWHS. There was discussion of doing something together with the Boys & Girls club, but I haven't heard anything in a while.

I think it is great for the kids who skate to get a skate park, but a larger segment of the community (babies through senior citizens) and visitors will use a public pool.

As one who swims laps I would LOVE to see a lap pool in the area. I know Seaside Tennis club has a lap pool and I'd like to see what membership is. We currently belong to Y in Destin and go once a week - but I'd like to swim more. And on those days when the June grass is heavy or the tannins are strong,or oil might be present (I hate even saying that) there would be an alternative place to swim. I don't know how one gets funding for such a pool though. I just know I enjoy swimming laps and would love to see more kids on swim teams, and older SoWallers getting exercise when they might not be able to do other things like jog or cycle.

Skate park is great - anything to get the kids up and moving!
