Smashed fingers

New posts
I'm sure everyone remembers a time where they smashed their fingers in the car door or a door of some kind. I'd been lucky up until now with my kids. Tonight my daughter was especially tired after a long day and closed the van door on her hand. ( I still don't know how she did it...she's 11) I automatically hit the lock button when closing my door so the door locked when she closed it. I have never heard a scream like that! My heart is still pounding. I didn't know what she did and she was trying to tell me to unlock the door but I couldn't understand her for a few seconds. It was terrible. I fumbled for my keys and hit the unlock button and we got it open. Her fingers on her left hand were immediately purple. We went inside and I got ice and then decided we better go to the urgent care. What a night...nothing broken thank goodness. They burnt a little hole in each nail to relieve the pressure. I thought my daughter was going to faint! She wanted to watch but she probably shouldn't have. It was pretty gross. Lots of blood. She said it felt a lot better after that was done and her fingers were all wrapped up. I was relieved...I hate it when my child is in pain. I guess this is one of those things you only do once...or seen done once. My son witnessed the whole thing and he was a little freaked out too! I'm sure he's going to enjoy telling his friends how he watched the Dr. burn holes in his sister's fingers. Anyway, that was our exciting night. Glad it's over.

Oh my! Bless her heart! I cringe just thinking about it! My daughter once closed a warehouse door on her hand--at Six Flags Over Tx. They had to raise it back up over her hand-- but, she was fine....hope yours will be too. How scary!

Poor baby! So sorry. Couldn't you just flip out when something like that happens to your child, but you have to be strong to make it easier for him/her?

Ouch....that poor girl! Good to hear she didn't break anything though. But boring holes in the fingernails  sends chills! I bet you'll all be cringing for a long time each time one of you opens/closes a car door. Ugh...glad that's all behind you! Hopefully she won't feel too much pain in the morning.

Oh my gosh Oceanlover!!! that sounds horrible, when my daughter was little she had her hand caught in a door at the supermarket!!! this is something you will never forget!! glad she is ok

Ohhh...That's one of things where you go into a complete panic. My mother rolled my fingers up in the window once- when I was about 20, keep in mind- and just couldn't get it together and get the window down. I was screaming, she was driving- it was a real nightmare!

Glad she's ok. Hope they didn't look like Prothro's leg.

She's doing much better today...a little sore of course but better. She's studying now for 2 tests this afternoon. No time to study last night so she's going in late today. Then tomorrow she's off to 6th grade nature/science camp for 3 days. The teacher will just love us...along with all her allergy/asthma/migraine concerns now she has to soak those fingers 2-3 times a day in hydrogen peroxide/water for 15 minutes each time! I'd just love to keep her home but she is soooo excited to go. I considered it because of her allergies ( ragweed is really bad here) but I'm trusting her meds and giving her a start on those wings we talked about.

My daughter Brittany is in 6th grade too.....12 years old, but she is an old soul, I've always thought that of her. was it her right or left hand? can she do school work? everyday she will feel a little better. :D

Gosh, no. I would have really freaked. It was quite the scene though. The neighbors heard her blood curdling scream and came outside to see what was going on. Panic...yea, I would say I did panic and then I was crying along with her....I wasn't being very strong at the time...later yes but right then no. Not so sure I'm going to push the automatic lock anymore until we are all safely away from the car.

How's our girl doing today? Hope she's doing better!
