I agree a snake is a snake. And I have a not so bright cat that would try and kill but miss then bring it inside from the screened in porch (she doesn't go out) and give it to me....

Glad you are OK and glad that, if you absolutely had to have a snake in the house, that it was a poser snake. (Oak snakes like to act like their venomous friends 'cause they think they can fool us. Posers.)

I would have been screaming, too. Unfortunately I've done the snake in the house thing too. Not this house, yet, praise God. (finding wood to knock on...)

I'm still not over my encounter with the little bitty snake that came out from under my couch at bedtime last Labor Day. Thank Gawd for the vacuum cleaner that night...

Mothballs under the furniture made me feel better, too. You might want to put some in the dryer vent!

Please don't kill the snakes. One day I will move down to SoWal and will place myself on call as a snake remover. They are such beautiful creatures and do so much good for the environment.

Anyway, go to the hardware store and get a screen that you can install over the end of the dryer vent where it empties outside. Most vents are equipped with flaps but animals have no trouble moving that flap out of the way and getting in.

If the oak snake or king snake or other harmless snake was outside, I do not kill it, and I am sure that SGG doesn't either.

A snake that is unfortunate enough to slither into the house - especially when you have been a snakebite victim before - is an entirely different matter.

Thank you, SN, I couldn't have said it better myself.

...and when the dryer is operating, the vents are usually open, blowing warm air, which probably feels really nice and cozy for cold-blooded animals.
