Social Security and Shenanigans

New posts
For the 457th time!

Social Security is not a retirement plan. It should never be considered as more than 1/4 of your retirement income.

Social Security is what keeps those physically unable to work and old people from dying homeless and starving in a ditch or alley. (No hyperbole, that's literally why we have the program.)

If you don't need it, consider yourself lucky and enjoy life.

If you do, it's there. And 99% of the world would like to trade places with you when you collect that basic subsistence income.

The government decided you must have a car that will protect you in a high speed crash (unless it's an LSV, but I digress) so you must drive a vehicle with functional brakes, seat belts, and insurance in case of a crash.

You don't lose money because you weren't in a life threatening crash - you're lucky.

Bad example. Government doesn't require me to drive a car with functioning brakes, and it doesn't require me to have insurance to protect me in a crash. Most states like Florida only mandate you have liability to protect the guy you hit.

bs on that one, try again

The "me, me, me...I get sick of it" by Buz and the "Perfectly said" response by Poppy expresses to "me" a great deal of what is wrong with our support system of the disabled and needy.
If you are not of the mind, "mine come first, I shall make sure they are taken care of and then I will look after the others", you were not raised as I was and that is just fine. The fact that there is a need for support programs for those in need is a given. The fact that there is corruption, fraud and abuse of our present system is also a given. We need to once again clean up our welfare programs. It can be done and all would be the better for it.

It's a double standard liberals have.. the "me me me" comes from both sides. The people who pay more than they get out of a system and the people who pay less or near nothing and get more.

You had to mention my name and the word wrong in the same sentence didn't you. You also refer to your strict father and the way you were raised in many of your posts and I have avoided responding until now. I feel sorry for you Andy, my father was also a Mason, a conservative, and a part time preacher. One of his hobbies was writing and volunteering to deliver sermons for absent ministers around the mid-south. The one single thing I loved most about my father was he never tried to force me to live his life. He encouraged me to make my own decisions and do what I felt was right for me, it never mattered whether it was what he would have chosen for me.
My dad always loved and supported me and was there for advice when I screwed up which was often. I feel I was luckier than you.

I thought the "me, me, me" was right on. We didn't get to this point because concern for the greater good was priority #1, we got here because everyone needed themselves and their special interests taken care of - regardless of consequences.

Once again parroting the rhetoric is drowning out common sense.

Do you REALLY think noone here supports reforms to decrease the number of people on welfare?

Do you really think a life spent living on welfare or Social Security disability is such a great thing that anyone wants to encourage it or than anyone opts for it when they have other options?

P.S. One of the provisions of Obamacare is to make it harder for individuals to file fraudulent SS disability claims and companies to get paid for suspect Medicare claims.

Poppy, either my reading interpretation and yours is entirely different or I'm not making myself clear due to my inability to express myself in words of the English language. I thought it would be clear I was saying "what is wrong with our support system of disabled and needy". This does not relate to you, personally and if you think it does, I apologize. I was using your statement and Buz's to make a point, not to criticize.
Also, there is absolutely no need to feel sorry for me and my upbring. I didn't realize until I had left home just how much my father's guidance had affected me. I have no less respect, admiration and love for my father than you do for yours. One thing more. My father gave up flying after he soloed so I could commence at the age of 14. A lot of fathers would not make such a sacrifice for their offspring. While I realize many would, it gave me the insight to know where my career would be. I have always been most admiring and appreciative of my father. You, Poppy, are no luckier than me and, as I said, you certainly don't need to feel sorry for me. I am comfortable in my own skin, as the saying goes.
