I just moved to Blue Mountain and have a new solar array on my roof. I retained and still have 4 USED Shell panels from my former residence that should have enough life for another 20-25 years on them. My electric meter is currently spinning backwards on my new system, but I have a deal for somebody on these Shell panels. The asking price is half what I paid for them. I originally used these panels hooked directly to a DC pump which pumped water through the filter on my swimming pool. Therefore, I saved about $40 a month on utilities required to run an AC pool pump. I am not sure this is the best application, but it worked well.
My suggestion would be to use one or more of these panels in conjunction with a kit containing a battery and inverter to make your own small sized solar power station that would be independent of the grid. People often advertise these as solar generators. They do provide high quality AC power for your office equipment or other low watt appliances such as computers, phones, lights, copiers, printers, etc. on a daily basis or in the event of a power outage. All you need is some sun to power your equipment and recharge the battery which provides power when the sun isn't shining.
If you are interested in solar, and want to make your first step into producing your own electricity this is a good way to start. You can't beat the price on these used panels, and they are working perfectly. I will supply you with some links to find supplies needed to put together a working system. I actually have 4 Shell panels and fifth panel that is also about the same power level that is even newer. I would have added them to my current array, but as you will learn one should use panels with very similar voltage if putting them in same array, and these didn't match my new panels well enough. Also, I had no more room on the roof. These can be mounted on a rack on the ground or on the roof, but you will have to buy some inexpensive racks.
