South Walton High School is no place for deaf students

unfortunately it's not uncommon for parents to have to hire an advocate or an attorney (they can be different entities) but i hope your son doesn't have to go through that. good luck and i hope you find better help-are there any forums for parents/students/advocates with his issues in your area-they might have BTDT and know the answers to help you.

We have gotten great advice as a result of posting here and on facebook. I am in contact with Florida Advocacy Center and we are going to try to figure this out.

Isn't there a way to use technology, using speak to type where the teacher speak and it would show up on a computer screen.

Is Florida Virtual School an option? I don't know that much about it, as my son never used it, but Jdarg is familiar and I know a couple of now-graduated kids that "attended" through Florida Virtual and still played sports at SWHS.

Isn't that for home school kids?

I think they want the general social aspect of high school as well as sports.

Florida Virtual is a great supplement, also classes at Northwest Florida State College. We were able to kind of "customize" the schedule with classes not offered at SWHS. It's not just for home school.
