What type of wood - size, width, length, thickness?

Any type of wood would probably work. My brother is moving into a house that has a fence, but he wants to add an area for his pets. So he is looking for some wood that he can work with to do that. We have tools, so if the wood is too long, we can cut it to size. Thanks!
