State of the Union Address

According to CNN, the current polls say that Americans are more concerned about jobs than anything else. Although small businesses need help, they don't hire enough people (due to the fact that they are small) to make a difference in the unemployment rate. It's the large corporations that can make a difference. When Obama mentioned "tax breaks to companies that create jobs right here in the United States of America," even some Republicans smiled. Small businesses don't typically go off-shore -- that was a direct reference to big business. A Republican sort of idea.

On a different note, what was wrong with Michelle Obama? She looked like she was angry or upset about something, not her usual smiling self.

She's a humble woman and I don't think she wanted to be acknowledged. If you noticed shortly after the look she told everyone to sit down.

Like someone said on CNN yesterday, Obama is 1/4 of the way through his elected term of office. He can't continue to blame everything on his predecessor. The talking heads on CNN (except for Donna Brazile) were saying that he promised so much during his campaign regarding what he'd do during his first year in office. There was a euphoria in 2008 from his promises of change, and the election results reflected that. Problem is that his lack of experience caused him to underestimate the power of the Washington establishment. No way he could do what he promised.

Disclaimer: I am just parroting what I heard for hours on CNN Sirius while on a road trip. Surprised that even Wolf Blitzer and Jack Cafferty were disparaging Obama. I have no expertise in this area (I am a math person), but I am trying to educate myself.

I disagree. If she were humble, she wouldn't parade around as a fashionista. That is a definite "look at me!" symptom.

Parade around? :idontno:
Come on, even her Wikipedia profile highlights this. Think of how many fashion shoots she's done for magazines and TV appearances that she's done, highlighting designers from those of J. Crew all the way up to couture designers. You can't deny this.

EDIT: IMO it's not a very appropriate time for the First Lady to display the accoutrements of power
and wealth when so many people are jobless and can't afford to go to the dentist for a toothache, much less a teeth whitening.

Guess I just don't have a problem w/ our First Lady looking nice and promoting American designers. It's part of her job IMO.

Are you eschewing all designer labels, displays of money, and dressing down because of the economy? Last I heard you were spending $600+ to go get your hair done at a salon w/ valet parking, so I find it strange you are criticizing Michelle Obama.

I have not heard him blame everything on his predecessor. He can, and does, acknowledge that the situation he inherited was not of his making...and I think he can continue to say that. It was not of his making, but he has no choice but to deal with it.

Think how different today would be if he had inherited a surplus; no war; and a world that felt positive about America.

humble, I think NOT

Ms. Obama humble? I think not. she travels with a hair dresser and other " special make me pretty helpers". She is eating this First Lady Stuff up. She loves the spotlight...she has been on numerous covers....she likes the spotlight!!!

Honestly, did anyone expect miracles in one year? I truly believe that Obama is trying to do his job as best he can, but if the people we have in Congress are jockeying for airtime and soundbites, how is any work going to get accomplished? You've got guys like Stupak and Nelson trying to make names for themselves and derail healthcare, but in the meantime, insurance premiums are still rising, we are paying 1Billion dollars for healthcare employees to say no, more administrative fees than any country has, Medicaid payments to doctors have been reduced and many are dropping patients like flies and not taking Medicare anymore. Obama inherited an oligarchy and they don't go down easy without a fight. We have teabaggers complicating and derailing any real progress while their representatives are using them like puppets to advance party lines and align themselves for re-election. Frankly, I am surprised that anything has been done this year with all this bullsheet. Obama's mistake was he should have had more of these fireside chatsa and not waited until people were so disgusted with everything.
