State of the Union Address

30-A Shopper: I didn't mean for this thread to degenerate into a Rep vs. Dem thing. Sorry about that. I genuinely feel that the American people need to give this president a chance. As to the Bailout, this was a policy initiated by George Bush, and signed by George Bush. To blame Obama on this one isn't fair. The stimulus plan is Obama's plan, and I haven't yet heard a plan from the minority as to how to jump-start the economy without spending money.

Yes I know, "it's all Goerge Bush's fault."

Mostly, just the Iraq War, and the Bailout Plan, but that is probably plenty...

here is the problem:

"This document was prepared with the assistance of the Republican staff, Committee on the Budget, U.S. House of Representatives. It has not
been approved by the full committee and therefore may not reflect the view of individual committee members"

taken from the cover of the document.

The Republicans do not have a workable plan that has been approved by any committee or even, it appears, by all the Republican members of any committee.
In order to get something passed, it has to work, and it has to be approved, first, by the appropriate committee...
I heard an interview with John Boehner the other day where he said, and I am paraphrasing because I can not find a copy of the interview. to post...that Republicans are there to "react to the President's plans"...as long as he and others feel they have no obligation to be pro-active with a workable solution, then, none of their ideas will get traction.

Come on, they come up with plans, democrats vote them down. They come up with amendments to democrat bills, they get voted down. They throw out ideas (tort reform? tax fairness?) democrats don't listen / act on them. This is a silly discussion. When you have one sided government you get one sided bills. What else are republicans to do if they simply disagree with what's being proposed? Vote no. The dems do the same when they're in the minority.

More from the minority for your reading pleasure

GOP Solutions for America - GOP.gov

this is not legislation; it's just more talking points.

Legislation is pro-active: policies that can actually be implemented--this is a reaction to Democrats, just as the GOP House Leader said, it even has a "score card."

Politics is getting in the way of governing--on both sides--but IMO the R side has not worked hard enough to get a workable plan--it's too easy to sit back and blame it on the other side.

Lake View Too ask for a plan from the minority - not necessarily legislation. I took plan to mean ideas/alternatives and thus provided two links.

IMO the D side has not worked hard enough to incorporate any Republican ideas. Until Scott Brown won MA they assumed they could ram whatever they wanted down our throats without any Republicans on board.
