Stolen (personal) bike - 4/6/10

Visiting in Seaside this week - April 5-11. Yesterday, April 6, between 3:30pm and 4:30pm, our son's brand new bike was taken from a bike rack in one of the alleys off Ruskin place. It is a Schwinn Ranger. 26" tires, Charcoal gray with touches of red and white. We have only had the bike for about 5 days, so we are not really familiar with the design yet. The seat is black and was raised quite a bit before it was taken. The part that says Schwinn is a thicker bar with a smaller bar above it that says Ranger. The handle bars are somewhat flat. It does have gears and there are a few small scratches around the nut where my husband adjusted the handle bars. We will continue looking for it lying around in Seaside, but if you happen to find it, please call 615-299-7412. Our son would be thrilled to get his bike back before we leave.

Two thoughts:

Do check with Seaside security, as borrowed bikes often turn up in the bushes within a few blocks of where they were taken.

Parents, when on vacation, make sure your kids keep a bike lock handy and use it. If they'd lock it back home, they should lock it here.

Hope you find it. I was worried about mine when I didn't lock it up at Seaside Farmer's Market. I'll know better next time!!

My son's used Specialized Bike was stolen about 2 hours ago. Parked by the mailboxes and FedEx drop-off area.
I talked to Seaside Security and they told me it was the 4th Specialized reported stolen TODAY and about 150 over the last couple of weeks.
The bike is a smaller frame (20") and is blue and grey and not very clean. It has a black Schwinn tote rack on the back.
We live here full time but I still haven't changed my Dallas cell # 214.718.4597
