A World War II replica stunt plane crashed into the Gulf of Mexico Saturday afternoon. Around 12:30 p.m., five planes were perfoming stunts at Topsail Hill State Park. One of them came out of a loop and nosedived into the water, according to a witness. Check back for more details.

Sad.

I just witnessed that crash on the beach at Gulf Pines this afternoon on my Yolo. The T6 warbird plane was coming out of a loop and crashed at a 70 degree angle into the gulf at a very high rate of speed. The plane was about a half mile out into the gulf. I heard no noise as it crashed and there was no smoke or fire. My beleif is that the plane disentegrated and sunk to the bottom. The latest report on the beach is they still have not located the plane or the people which reports is a husband wife team. According to news sources all they have found were 2 battered helmets. Very sad and a very surreal sight on such a beautiful day. I am sure more reports are coming in as this unfolds through out the day.

Just an fyi....if you haven't contacted SWFD with your witnessing of the crash, please do so. The FAA appreciates witness reports while they do their investigation.

Sad to hear....I heard the planes earlier, but didn't see them today doing their formations. It has always been a joy to see them over BMB....

Sad to hear of the loss of life. I've always gotten a kick out of it when I've seen those pilots overhead.

I have already contacted the Sherrif's dept. to let them know I was a witness. i have also spoke with a reporter from the NWF Daily news. I have heard that a little girl videotaped the crash and has submitted it to authorities.
