Suggestions for how to reduce spending, balance the budget, and pay off the deficit

New posts
I find it interesting that people hate the USPS and think it should be abolished, but when Obama ended the giant welfare teat that was student loans people went ballistic and elected a sub-par funeral director into office.

After more than 100+ legs flown this year, I can say without a doubt that some of the worst TSA officials are in the smallest airports. I am in and out of Reagan National in DC at least twice a month and it is night and day to some of the small airports. The small airports drive me NUTS!!!

I have the opposite experiences - have a theory that the higher the number of people involved the higher the percentage of incompetent/lazy people.

Though I doubt I'd last a day dealing with the idiocy of fliers who are baffled by the new rules - that have been in place for YEARS.

From my understanding, there is still no one in charge of the TSA. I believe Obama's choice for head of this department is one of about 65 of his apointments that are still held up by Republican fillibustering on appointments. Does anyone know if this is still the case?

Ya'll are just way more knowledgeable than me in the budget dept.
I would have no clue how to escape this financial mess so I won't attempt it, but one thing bothers me, we borrowed money from China.
To me it's one thing to have trouble financially within our country, but quite another to make ourselves vulnerable to another country.
If the borrower is subject to the lender, then we have just sold ourselves as slaves to China.
We, as a nation, should batten down the hatches and solve this financial crisis within our nation.
I believe it is national suicide to borrow money from other countries.
If we emulate one or many of our citizen's successful budget plans, or the ideas of another citizen's or countries' budget plan that works, it is certainly better than being a toadstool in the black cauldron that's slowly rolling to a boil.
Like Scooterbug said, Why sit we here until we die- let's find a solution, right?
Who says our voice doesn't count, this is our government and our nation.
You guys have some good suggestions, I think, budgets make me crazy.
It's not the theory of a budget that's annoying, it's the specific details that make my eyes glaze over.
Obviously, I'm not an accountant.
Carry on Einsteins, I'll have to join in on another subject.

Who hates the USPS?

A blast from the past.

The point is that whenever the budget comes up the USPS is usually pushed down the stairs first. Frankly after rereading that thread I realized that for all the "waste" that people say the USPS does they have figured out that you simply stamp the word "FRAGILE" (that's Italian I think) on a package. UPS on the other hand would rather you wrap it in bubble wrap, cushion it in peanuts, and then place it in a box. This enables their employees to drop kick grandma's tea set across the sorting floor.

BTW, the argument that UPS and FedEx somehow do it more efficiently through private enterprise is BS.

UPS makes you wrap it up because they accept responsibility - the USPS seems to have the motto of "it's not my problem/fault."

If I had a dollar for every item labeled "photos - do not bend" or "fragile" that was wadded up and stuffed in my mailbox, or that reeked of smoke from their "private contractors", I could pay for the private mailbox I now have to have because once you get one the post office will NEVER AGAIN forward your mail.

I suspect I just don't know that many people who hate the USPS. I do know which carrier to use based upon my and my recipients' needs, however.....this this differs geographically.

I don't hate the USPS, I just get very frustrated that we are spending billions of our tax dollars to subsidize them - especially when they are pissing me off with their incompetence/policies.

Seaside and Mama Scooterbug's post offices rock.
