Summer Heat and Jesus

The heat of summer has finally visited us in northern CA, even though fog and very chilly temps are an hour away in San Francisco. The challenge this weekend will be saving the 9-ft. hydrangea hedge from wilting to the ground, since it is covered with huge, deep blue blooms. My fingers will be playing the buttoms of that irrigation system like an accordion. We have a garden party at a winery that promises to be steamy until the sun goes down. I need a fashionable fan to take with.

Say, does anyone know where we could get some of those old-fashioned handheld fans featuring a cardboard picture of Jesus mounted on a wooden stick? I remember these things from the church and funeral homes at my late grandmother's house at Clayton, AL. We once saw a centerpiece for a down-home Southern dinner party in NYC consisting of a clear glass jar with a selection of these Jesus fans in it. Very clever and amusing. The host, now deceased, was an African American guy who is a designer. He brought them from his own grandmother's home in Alabama.
Stay cool, everyone...and how could you miss at SoWal?!? :clap_1:

I need some Jesus about now. It hasn't rained OUTSIDE here since May 5th (although it's looking good for the weekend) and after isolating the leak in the ceiling, having sheetrock torn out and fans blowing since Monday, the moisture reader shows up to hopefully give me the green flag. NO...now my A/C pan is leaking into the same room!!! This is a 6 month old unit and they are on the way. Give me strength that I do not :boxing: them up! I am tired of it raining in my house!

Poor Kitty! I'm surprised you haven't blown a gasket! I think the A/C might have sent me right over the edge. I'd be deep into a full blown hissy fit right now, if I were you! Hopefully by this time tomorrow all the rain will be on the lawn and not in your house!

Wish we were in SoWal sipping a planters punch and planning and plotting "TomFoolery"! :funn: Hang in there Gullfriend!

Thanks pals...A/C guy just left. Super fans back on. Cool air has returned. I now have the extra drainline I SHOULD have had in the first place. Heads will roll. Don't mess with Miss Kitty!

I laughed at audie and what's gonna leak next...hopefully it won't be ME again!

God luv ya! You've had a heck of a time!! Here's hoping you'll be cool & dry soon!!
p.s. Hope we do get some rain--mr. dd is about to have a stroke over the water bill!!

It is 5:30 p.m. here and still 104 degrees outside. I have watered my hydrangea hedge with irrigation bubblers, garden hoses, and big tin watering cans. I had the gardener move two big market umbrellas over to shade it, finally. He already thinks I'm out of my mind and I think he will insist on my husband writing his checks in the future. (Boy, is he in for a surprise there!) There is a very hot wind blowing, so we are just hoping that we don't have wildfires this weekend. One ciggie ash flying outta that convertible in this kind of weather and an entire hillside is up in flames. The boys at the firehouse are pumped up.

Jesus, I can do without the fans, but please look out for the careless smokers and save my hydrangea that I spoonfed aluminum sulfate to for eight months in order to get these blooms. I promise that I will be good.
