The SWCC will hold a public forum with District 5 County Commissioner, Cecilia Jones at 7 pm, Feb. 26, at the Coastal Branch Library. The forum is free of charge and open to the public.

Jones, a lifelong resident of Walton County, has a BA degree from the University of West Florida in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. She has been a teacher for most of her adult life. Commissioner Jones said, "I am passionate about providing area youth with a place where they can safely grow up and enjoy the beauty of the Walton County environment."

"Plans have to be put in place right now during the economic decline that has hit this area so hard. We must prepare this county for future growth as our area bounces back to good times. I'm concerned about rising fuel costs and cost of living increases," she added.

Jones said she is also committed to the widening of U.S. Highway 331 to improve the county's evacuation route during storms. She said the Walton County evacuation time is currently one of the slowest in Florida. The commissioner lives in Santa Rosa Beach with her husband, Jerry. She has three grown children and four grandchildren.

This forum is one of the series of monthly educational programs presented by SWCC. For more information call Ella Caro, 231-6038
