Tax on a taxpaying Government worker

New posts
Spin it any way you want, a class of citizens are paying a tax no one else is paying. The money is being used to finance the general fund deficit. I would have less issue with it if it was going into the FRS because then they recieve benefit, but going into the general operating account it benefits evryone and as I said 1 class of people are paying for it.

Exactly, me too. That's what I'm curious about. Maybe that was the question Gaetz thought he was answering.

Just curious, do you pay social security?

It's true this will end up in the general fund. Prior to the law FRS payments are made from the general fund to pay benefits and increase investment. From the general fund employees of the state are also paid. After the law passes a small percentage that would have gone to paychecks now stays in the general fund. That money can be used for anything. To figure out if it's going to FRS, we would have to compare FRS payments between budgets to see if the funds are in fact being transfered over to FRS. I'd love to know if that's the case once the budget is published. If they don't transfer the money over, they aren't improving the financial stability of the FRS system. Sort of like Washington spending social security surpus on other things - kicking the problem down the road.

Yes and as far as I know there are 3 fire departments that do not pay SS and they have to meet stringent requirements that would include SS like payments to surviving members in the event of death/ disability. They are also enacted by special legislation.

I believe they do pay SS. Also this tax on employees, it does not go into the FRS but into the General Fund per Reprensentative Matt Gaetz and Senator Don Gaetz. Rep Matt Gaetz said the reason it is going to the general fund is and I quote "we need the money". As an aside I noticed both of them support this initiative and not one Tea Party individual has come out against the tax on government workers in the FRS. Where is the HUE and CRY.

I consider myself a "tea party individual" and if you have read my posts you will see that I stated I was against it and thought the employees were being ripped off. You might get farther with your issues if you will concentrate on the facts and stop demonizing groups of people.

I do and I will, but it is not for the government to decide for me. The difference between my dues is they are mine and just because I have payroll deduction it is still my money to do with what I please. Those government entities who pay dues using your tax money, like local goverments who belong to Associations of Cities and Counties use your tax money to pay their dues. This is where local goverment is political.

Tea Party is one of the major groups pushing the agenda in Tallahassee, just in case you didn't get the message. Just because you as an individual are opposed then maybe you need to change affiliations.

You did not say "group" you said "individual" And you were wrong. As to my affiliations, no group you belong to will represent your views 100% of the time unless you are a robot or a moron. The tea party is a group of people concerned about the out of control spending in government and the size of the national debt. In other words they want less government. I may not agree with this particular proposal but I certainly agree with the goal.

That is why as to political affiliation I am not stuck on a party.
