TDC Runs A deficit - To Many Blue Signs ?

New posts
A deficit is a deficit ! Plain and simple.

Read whatever you choose into the defict reported by the auditor.

Simple question. Have I mistated the defict numbers ? No I have not.

Ok, we are at an impasse so I will move on. Thank you for an opportunity to highlight some of the good things the TDC as done in the past few years. Have a great day.

You are more than welcome. Of course the TDC does some good things and you have certainly provided those that choose to read the thread with what you believe them to be.

Would you like to discuss the Big Ugly Blue Signs ? You consider beach renourishment a highlight of their accomplishments and I consider their "Big Blue Ugly Signs" as one of the most obvious examples of their many failures.

No thanks.

Number bickering aside, I think that they should have to work within their budget.

I am really sick of gov't carte blanche! If you don't have the money for a non-essential/non-emergency project .................... no project!

The TDC is responsible for many things, and I disagree with only two of their projects, the Blue Sign program, and Beach Restoration (enlargement). Borrowing money to rebuild walkovers is something which I would consider to be an emergency. It sounds as though they have allocated future revenues from the bed tax to fully pay off the loan.

I am very much in favor of operating within a budget. As long as the TDC doesn't keep piling on more debt and promising to pay it back with the future revenue which was promised to other projects, they will be fine. Many gov't entities issue bonds for things such as infrastructure, with promises to pay it back with revenues generated by the additional services gained by the additional infrastructure. I see nothing wrong with doing so.

I agree with your overall assessment. The borrowing that has taken place has not been for the repair of walkovers, etc - it has been for beach renourishment.

Where do you think the revenues are going to come from for the eastern beach restoration.

In BeachSi02's post above, he states that the borrowing does include money for walkover repair/replacement from Hurr. Dennis.

Personally, I am against Beach Restoration, just as I am against seawalls. The enormous amount of cost isn't as big a concern as the restoration being only a temporary solution to an ongoing perceived "problem" of the constant movement of sand and shifting dunes along our beaches. When the next storm washes away all of the restored beaches, FEMA steps in and pays for a redo, as I understand it, throwing more and more money at something a third grader can understand, doesn't solve a thing, and certainly is a cause of the numerous wasteful spending projects found around our Country.

Just for clarification sake, I will way back in to say that the TDC deficits include charges from hurricane recovery. The loan the BCC secured was for the beach restoration project only. I am sorry if I confused the situation.

Now I feel confused. I understand that the deficits include emergency repairs from hurricane recoveries. Is that all which the deficits include? (setting aside the loan used to pay for the Beach Restoration projects)
