your Mom ever gave you?

great question!!! I have to think about it. but one piece of advice (more like a statement) she would tell me when I was younger and I didn't believe her until I was much older. she was mostly correct when she would say...

"remember, mom is always right...."

DD... I do so love you! You're such a wonderful thoughtful soul. Like the wonderful teachers we've all had; I'm sure many of us have been blessed with Mother(S) of our higher soul spirits that exceed biological definition.

For me...

My Mother: a woman of fairly few words and extremely strong loving example. Two of my fave quotes from her mouth...

First: Her answer to me when I was a young adult in search of... I knew not what at the time. It's one of her simple, wise, allowing, accepting (and therefore for ME) transformative statements:

1. "I have no answersfor YOU...
I
BELIEVE because I need to. My belief helps ME be who I aspire to be each day. This is my path. It is up to YOU to find the path that works for YOU and brings you Peace."

Second: typical of one of her teasing verbal spankings designed to lovingly shine a spotlight on what she deems unattractive behavior (too much talk & not enough action):

2. "How did I end up the ONLY Indian in a family of Chiefs???"

My mother always said to me as I walked out the door, "Son, be good; if not, be careful!"

And, when I didn't follow her advice. She'd say "It could always be worse!"

This is what my mom showed me

To do everything because you love.

It's better to cry in a rolls than an old jalopy.

Have FUN everyday.

If it's the only money you have left, buy steak and champagne.

Let's go shopping.

Live your life, not someone else's.

Want a cup of coffee?

God is there

My Mother wasn't a big advice-giver. She quietly taught by example kindness, forgiveness, unconditional love, politeness, and treating everyone with respect and compassion.

The one time i remember some sage advice was when i was in my 20's and me and my psycho felon boyfriend were busted with a joint on our way to AC/DC in Columbia, SC. After sitting in the pokey for 27 hours waiting to be released, I gave her a call to let her know why i wasn't home, and this is what she said:

"You wouldn't be there if you hadn't gone"

Thank you Mom, for those words of wisdom. :floor:

Two things my momma said that I might should listened to better: it's as easy to love a rich boy as a poor boy and pick a career in the medical industry, be a nurse or something

Something I did eventually listen to her on: you run with thugs, you become a thug-of course her definition of thug might be a little more encompassing than mine was as a teenager!

Something I did listen to: don't start highlighting your hair, once you start, you can't stop or you'll get those trashy looking roots!

One of the rare times I can remember my mom talking to me like an equal, she told me my high school/college boyfriend "love of my life" was nice but too weak for me. WOW was she ever right!

On my wedding day, my mother told me never to tell her anything bad about my husband unless I was leaving him because I would forgive him, but she would never be able to forget the hurt. At the time I thought it was funny, but after having kids, I understand. I never did; in fact, I never told her when the kids screwed up either as there was no need for both of us to lose sleep!
