old man at his watermelon stand, and a big sign that said walter melons!

and that reminds me of my Texas Belle grandmother who'd tell us that in her day they called avocados "alligator pears." except in her wonderful Houston accent it sounded like "alli-gay-tuh pay-uhs."

Boiled peanuts rank up there with escargot, blue cheese, and mushrooms in my list of BLECHHH! I really wished I liked them though- I've always wanted to buy a little bag from those nice people that sell them at intersections in small Alabama towns!QUOTE]

jdarg, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thinks they are disgusting! I just thought I didn't understand them! And escargot--you can't put enough butter and garlic to make those things taste any better! But, blue cheese and mushrooms--YUM! My daughter says that blue cheese reminds her of toe jam. I try not to think about that when I'm enjoying a good blue!
