Beach Fanatic
Hope this turns out well...

Pile of truck fron the fire station on 393 went screaming by me a few minutes ago. Not good with that surf out there this morning.

The South Walton Fire District (SWFD) would strongly encourage all beach goers to familiarize themselves with the beach flag warning system, the color of the flag and heed the warnings and directions of SWFD lifeguards. The present surf conditions, remnants of Hurricane Alex, are very deceptive; while the waves and clear water look very inviting, due to the widespread locations, total number and strength of the rip currents, swimming in the Gulf extremely dangerous at this time.

The SWFD responded to four water rescue calls involving 8 distressed swimmers by 11:30 a.m. this morning. As SWFD lifeguards worked tirelessly to warn beach goers of the inherent dangers that the surf conditions presented, many times their warnings were ignored requiring the lifeguards to perform rescues. ?We take every measure to be proactive and not reactive, preventing a situation from developing is far better and safer than having to responding to a swimmer in distress.? said Sean Hughes, Deputy Chief.

?We are very fortunate that no one was seriously injured this morning? said Gary Wise, Beach Safety Director, ?we need beach goers to monitor and follow the beach flags and direction of our lifeguards, under the current conditions knee deep is to deep.? Lifeguards will be out in force this holiday weekend to ensure that everyone has an enjoyable and safe 4th of July at the beach.

Fire trucks again east bound from 283/30A

I know someone who was in a bike wreck this morning - concussion, dislocated shoulder, stitches, etc... I'm pretty sure he was on 30A - and that SWFD was indeed called.

Poor guy.

No kiddin'.

Another ambulance east bound from 283/30A. Man, I miss my dispatcher days! :-)

Wow. What an unfortunate series of events.

But if this is not indicative evidence that we cannot
ever take enough precautions, put up enough signs, write or broadcast enough news articles, employ enough lifeguards, enact enough legislation, or 'educate' people by whatever means to supercede their own personal (oft times selfish) choices and re-engage with common sense...
then there will simply never be enough bandaids to slap on the egotistical nature of humanity to protect people from themselves.

I do send up prayers that we can access enough wisdom, each day, to evolve beyond our own...
willfulness (or guilt.)

Wishing all a safe happy 4th weekend.
