The TDC hauls a lot of trash

Beach Fanatic
The TDC currently cleans the beaches 365 days a year and services more than 470 trash receptacles daily. From October 2006 through September 2007, the beach crew filled 215,250 dumpsters equaling 645 tons of trash. The TDC also meticulously maintained more than 15 acres in public parks and nearly 60 beach and bay access on a weekly basis.

From the 2007 annual report

Do they TDC have a recycling system in place for all this garbage--....someone on the Board please tell me yes.....

You might want to hit the search button on this one. There was MUCH discussion last summer about what happens to the chairs, toys, etc. I wish there was a way to have a recycling bin at the boardwalks for cans, but I think we should be thankful so much trash makes it to the receptacles period!

If there's a will, there's a way. I think BradPickelformerlyofTDC could enlighten us a bit on what it would take.

I wish we could figure out what to do with the "beach crap" - chairs, umbrellas, and beach toys that are purchased upon arrival for a one week stay, then left behind on the beach, in dumpsters, and in vacation rentals.:(

Next time you visit a state park notice their receptacles. They have had separate containers for recycling for a long time. At the very least all those aluminum cans could be sorted out before they ever leave the beach. It would take some money for the extra bins and a little bit of organization. Mostly it would take the WILL. The values of the community and the values of the TDC seem to be at odds in many respects. The big blue signs are, well, a "sign" of this. Recycling is not something that puts heads in beds.
It's really too bad the TDC cannot seem to get on board with the idea that we can have both - a thriving community and a thriving tourist economy. :bang:
More lost opportunities. :angry:

Mine's all at John R's house. :idontno::lol:
Do you think most renters throw it away and/or leave it at their rental? We've never done that, the idea is foreign to me, honestly. I do wish more of the owners could find a way to keep that stuff for subsequent renters. It's nice to arrive at a rental where there are a couple of chairs and an umbrella, and it also cuts down on the throwaways, but I realize it's probably not entirely practical.

I tried and they always go missing. :idontno:
I just recommend the beach chair rental companies now.

Considering how much "appreciation" the TDC gets from people like NDY on trash removal threads, I would guess that a former employee would probably refer you directly to the TDC. But then again, I could be surprised.

I was under the impression that recycling bins were going to be placed on the beaches? :idontno:

All of the stuff that is hauled off the beach is "stored" in a lot off of 83 or 393. That where the beach chair folks go to get their wayward chairs and umbrellas.
