Landlocked

Beach Fanatic
I posted this in the lounge because I didn't want to tarnish that beautiful beach down there, but I felt something needed to be said. I just returned from my trip and we had the unfortunate experience of some theft going on at the beach. I was fishing at about 4:30 in the morning, and went up to grab a quick bite to eat at the house at about 5:30. While I was in the house, a white pickup backed up to my fishing cart sitting on the beach. The cart was sitting next to a pile of debris and had a bunch of fishing stuff and some other things strapped to it. This guy had the nerve to take off anything not fishing related and throw it on the ground and load the cart up in his truck and drive off. One of our guests witnessed the whole thing but didn't say anything to me because she didn't know it was mine. When I came back up after seeing my cart was gone, she said "That was yours?". Bummer!

So, if you see anyone with a green, handmade fishing cart with rod holders all the way around, this person is a thief.

That sucks big time. Any other distinguishing features of your cart or the truck? Is the cart aluminum? Relative size? If they repaint the cart a different color, how can I recognize the cart? I will keep a lookout for you. Other than that, I hope your trip was great.

About the truck, the disturbing thing is that Barbara said it looked a whole lot like it had a county emblem on the door. If that is the case, why the heck did he throw half the stuff on the ground and leave it there. He only took fishing stuff. I thought that was interesting to say the least. If it was the county and they thought it had been there all night, I would have thought they would have picked up everything. I called the TDC and they said that they don't do that anyway. The girl on the phone said they aren't staffed to pick up stuff like that on the beach. She said they only pick up stuff left near the public trash cans.

I stopped a county truck on the beach a couple days later and the two guys looked at each other and said, "No, we don't know nothing about no fishing cart." Hmmm..

About the cart, it is a green wooden cart with a pvc handle. Not many other distinct looking features to it other than it is heavier than he**. Seems like everything I build turns out that way. On the other hand, since it was made of wood, it floated really well across Stallworth Lake. I just tied it to the boat and tooted across. Pretty neat.

How terrible that your cart was stolen, Landlocked. I hope someone here can at least find it. Do you think some county guys just decided to help themselves...?

I'm sure that was the case. I'm over it now. Now I have an excuse to spend a weekend building a new and improved version. It was really handy. Not just for fishing. I used it in the garden and whenever I did yardwork.

I never see anyone driving on the beach anywhere except Grayton, unless it's a SO, Fish and Wildlife, or County vehicle.

Every now and then beach service guys will go where they aren't supposed to.

I had a truck pull up and a guy steal my tacklebox while I was wading in a lake in SC many years ago when i was about 14. I don't know if I've ever been madder. It was like someone stole everything I owned because it nearly was.

You can take my house, my car, my underwear, whatever, but keep your hands off my tackle.

And my BBQ ribs.

Good for you landlocked! I'm sorry for your loss, but you have decided to make some lemonade and that makes you the winner!!!!

My next cart will have a sign that reads, "Smile for the Camera".

Kurt-

I fully understand your grief of losing your tackle box. I'm a fully grown man and when I walked up to get my cart and it was gone, I think I had to choke back the tears. Ha ha. Of course, then I just got downright mad. I kicked one of the beach chairs they left on the ground and sliced the bottom of my foot wide open. Insult to injury. I'm still limping. :laughing1
