Things to do when the weather is wet

Hi, we have 3 families coming into the area this weekend and it looks like there will be several days with some wet weather. I was looking for some suggestions of some fun things to do then the weather is on the rainy side. Thanks so much for your help.

Watching weather roll in across the gulf is AMAZING!

Meanwhile...

COOK fabulous things to Eat & Drink (get the kiddos cooking too)
Tell progressive stories
Play Charades, Scrabble, and Mexican Train Dominoes
Hold a "Talent" Show
Organize an illustrated story writing contest
Play Hide-The- You fill in the Blank (if you're 5 years old you'll say: Thimble ... if older...
you might say... something else ;-))

Not a bad idea to be prepared but paying attention to weather forecast around here that is more than 12 hours out is futile. Besides, the forecast through the weekend shows 30% chance of rain every day. In reality there is never less than a 30% chance of rain in SoWal in July. And when we do get showers they are usually in the afternoon, brief, and welcome.

Check out Fired UP in Seaside for a great time indoors. The public library off Hwy 331 is very nice. Rent movies at Movies By The Sea by Publix in WaterColor Crossing on Hwy 395 just a mile north of Scenic 30A. You can also pick up a pizza next door at Pizza By The Sea.

Maybe I should entitle this "Things NOT to do"...;-)

Don't drive on US 98 West from 30A toward Silver Sands or Destin Commons... unless your favorite past-time is sitting in heavy bumper-to-bumper traffic for an hour or more during a rainstorm.

Don't let the kids play outside during periods of Lightning... two young men were recently killed by Lightning during a Thunderstorm.

Otherwise bring a couple of classic board games and teach the kids what young people used to do to pass the rainy days before there was a 24 hr Disney Channel.

When it rains it seems everyone goes shopping.

If I was you I would go to Fired Up at Seaside like Kurt suggested. The kids can all make something and you will have a great keepsake. Maybe each could paint a tile and you could arrange them together somehow.

One of the simplest, most fun things my son and I used to do when it rained was to get out the bubble soap and blow bubbles off the porch into the wind and rain. Obviously this is not suitable for torrential downpours or electrical storms (and it's important to stay on the porch!) but it used to be pretty cool to see how far the wind would carry them before the rain popped them. :D
