Jim Pasco, the executive director of the Fraternal Order of Police, had some helpful advice for the vacationing Obama on Thursday.

During an interview with The Hill, Pasco said: “I would contend that discussing police tactics from Martha’s Vineyard is not helpful to ultimately calming the situation.” Ouch. But Pasco wasn’t done.

The police union head also had objections to Obama’s comments about the police in Ferguson, Mo., following the shooting death of Michael Brown: “I think what he has to do as president and as a constitutional lawyer is remember that there is a process in the United States and the process is being followed, for good or for ill, by the police and by the county and by the city and by the prosecutors’ office.”

The comment by Obama to which Pasco took issue: “There’s no excuse for police to use excessive force against peaceful protests or to throw protesters in jail for lawfully exercising their First Amendment rights.” Peaceful protests? Smashing store-front windows and stealing anything and everything one can steal is a peaceful protest? Throwing Molotov cocktails at police is a peaceful protest? Shooting at a police helicopter is a peaceful protest?

Following up on those comments, Pasco said: “I’m not there, and neither is the president. That is why we have due process in the United States. And this will all be sorted out over time. But right now, I haven’t seen anything from afar - and maybe the president has - that would lead me to believe the police are doing anything except to restore order.” By all accounts, the police in Ferguson have operated with restraint during the five nights of riots.

As for Obama, who said in the aftermath of the Trayvon Martin shooting, “If I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon,” can the same be said?

What about the Cambridge, Massachusetts police officers who had “acted stupidly” arresting Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr., only later to be apologized to ahead of the so-called “beer summit”? “That was totally inappropriate.

I am disgraced that he is our commander-in-chief,” Stephen Killion, head of the Cambridge Police Patrol Officer’s Association, said. “He smeared the good reputation of the hard-working men and women of the Cambridge Police Department. It was wrong to do. It was disgraceful.”

The pattern of behavior from the president is clear:

If there is a racially charged conflict in American society, Obama will tactfully confirm the biases of those who feel aggrieved, while feigning to be above it all. This is not the “post-racial presidency” many thought they were voting for when they voted for Barack Obama; instead, they elected a divider and not a uniter. What America and Ferguson, Missouri need now is leadership that restores calm to a volatile situation that has gotten out-of-control.

Right wingers have no problem distinguishing between armed patriots displaying civil unrest by pointing weapons at the jack booted thugs overreaching trying to confiscate the cattle of a white man who owes a million dollars in unpaid grazing fees and unarmed lynch mobs protesting the shooting of yet another unarmed black kid by hero cops.

Turns out the answer is policing not occupying. Reports are there has been a stunning change since State Troopers took control of the situation.

Tips For Being An Unarmed Black Teen

1 - Shy away from dangerous, heavily policed areas.

2 - Avoid swaggering or any other confident behavior that suggests you are
not completely subjugated.

3 - Be sure not to pick up any object that could be perceived by a police officer as a firearm, such as a cell phone, a food item, or nothing.

4 - Explain in clear and logical terms that you do not enjoy being shot, and would prefer that it not happen.

5 - Don’t let society stereotype you as a petty criminal. Remember that you can be seen as so much more, from an armed robbery suspect, to a rape suspect, to a murder suspect.

6 - Try to see it from a police officer’s point of view: You may be unarmed, but you’re also black.

7- Avoid wearing clothing associated with the gang lifestyle, such as shirts and pants.

8 - Revel in the fact that by simply existing, you exert a threatening presence over the nation’s police force.

9 - Be as polite and straightforward as possible when police officers are kicking the **** out of you.

Police have killed 5000 Americans since 9/11. 120 officers have been killed in the line of duty during the same period. Gangsta rap and violent video games, a culture of gratuitous death. No morals and a serious lack of education is pretty obvious on both sides of the law.

Part of it, the stats, the rest is free style! Common sense is missing in so many parts of our society. Maybe it isnt a good idea to put white cops in high density AA areas. Maybe there should be more sophisticated psych testing for law enforcement. If you look at Canada and Germany, even the UK, they have less than 1/20th of the law enforcement related deaths. I get the perpetuation of poverty etc.. but poor doesnt have to mean violent. Think about how many times cops are put into this same situation every week, maybe 5000 deaths is a small number. Something is seriously wrong.

Maybe there is something different in the US. Something we have more of than the other countries you mention. You know a sense of entitlement or an item, something that many Americans value more than human life that causes the police to be a bit more apprehensive or even afraid when approaching a suspect. I can't quite put my finger on what it is.

You're blaming video games and other violent media???!! I don't buy it. Look at Japan. They loves them some extremely hardcore violent entertainment. You don't see them shooting each other up on a regular basis.

I blame ****ty parenting...along with too much access to things (violent, pornographic, distractive, subversive, suggestive) that honestly most adults should not have access to, much less kids. Damn whoda thunk at 46 I sound like an ad for The Walton Family....and isnt that what we are after all? Oh wait, that would be the Manson family.
