This Old Pucking House

New posts
Florida cottage, 1887. Always something to do but we love it. We've just finished the floors and the pine with four coats of tung oil looks just lovely.

(There is a Brady Bunch wing on the back with the "saferoom" bath. I've even gotten strangly attached to the wood paneling and eight foot ceilings!)

New development: The well is pumping lovely reddish brown water into the house...adds to the "charm."

but size does matter doesn't it ;-)

Oh, Kitty, I am so sorry.

When we lived in Hammond, La about 8 years ago we decided that we were going to spruce up the den area. Mr IBd went to pull apart some sheetrock and it was crawling with termited. :bang: Holy moly, what a night mare. I hate those things to this day. bad bad bug!

Due to the drought last summer, our house broke in half. I'm not kidding. The slab broke diagonally from one corner to the other.

Hammond! I visited a friend there the summer I was 15. I remember her driving me to the DQ and she didn't even have her license! Sweet place.

That very thing happened in our first house...starting peeling wallpaper in the kitchen and saw "wormy" things. This was right after having a termite inspection before purchase. :bang:

No freakin' way! What did you do? We are pier and beam and I am bad about soaking the perimeter and rely on the sprinklers...every summer some of the doors in the house quit closing properly.

:yikes:Wow, LL. What do you do about something like that?

Yes, I have started yet another project on this old pucking house, the Dallas series. I am a serial procrastinator and Mr. K has been after me to get off sowal.com and take care of business. Good thing he left for a week today...been gearing up for some new landscape (DD is my master gardner) and decided to rip up the old red brick patio off the deck. They came today...things were going great...then, the discovery was made...
there is pucking concrete underneath the entire patio and they are now jackhammering the sheet out of it!!
 :bang: :( $$$$$$

Life story of anyone with an old house...do one thing and two more jobs reveal themselves. What is your "this old house" (or new house) nightmare?

I nominate this post and thread title to be in the funniest thread and post of the year. Kitty, sorry for your troubles, but you have a great way of making everything better with your sense of humor. Come on October!

She needs to start more threads.

I think people would be terrified I had anything concrete in my backyard, and then had to dig it up.

Good luck, Kitty. One project leads to another and another..........
