This Old Pucking House

Are those jacks? Do they jack up the house?!

Yes, they're hydraulic jacks. They lifted the front half of my house two inches. It was really impressive to watch. They drove piers 32 feet down into the ground and jacked against them to raise the house.

It was an expensive fix, but you realize why when you watch the whole process.

Yikes... Do they pour concrete under it or something then?

Holy crap, LL!!! :yikes:

...I was jacked up on sterioids a while back...those house jacks are just whack!

Does insurance cover any of that fix?

Due to the drought last summer, our house broke in half. I'm not kidding. The slab broke diagonally from one corner to the other.

..LL, thanks for the pics and info! We often see commercials for this and wondered how it works.

Miss K, ..Did you decide on a tree? Sounds like you may have more time to think about it now...What's buried in your concrete?

Loved the dirty book found in wall of the house that was moved! Sorry about the porch though....

I would love for her to get a desert willow, Rita, but I think it might block her view of the pool. My second choice would be a redbud.

I nominate this post and thread title to be in the funniest thread and post of the year. Kitty, sorry for your troubles, but you have a great way of making everything better with your sense of humor. Come on October!

Thank you, SJ...real life can be the funniest thing, ever! I will say this...the backyard looks lovely with that jarring red brick removed!

I need to go look at the calendar and count the days! ;-)

Must be a different area you're talking about. I was referring to larger shade tree (red oak vs chinquipin.)
Redbuds are "open" so she could see through and can be pruned up. Probably want to stay away from the Eastern Redbud though imo. Leaves are thin and it seems to suffer more in our heat and sun. Around the pool would be extra concrete. I'd lean to Oklahoma or Texas Redbud instead.

She'll probably get more advice than she can handle! Can't you just see her telling her landscaper... "but my friends say this.." ..HA!

Yeah, I'm thinking he's already saying to himself "who the puck is this Renee and what does SHE know!"
Yep, I'd go with the Texas Redbud too. It would go in the area she's having torn out between her house and pool area. But she has a great view of the pool from inside the house.
