Well gang, gather 'round... it's time for another episode of This Old Pucking House!

First, I must say rereading this thread is a side splitter! Y'all are dang funny!

This saga begins with a roof leak over the kitchen sink (mmmm, about 2 yrs. ago) that was fixed, but the ceiling just sat there with it's 6x6 spot where the water bubbled through. It has driven Mr. K insane that I haven't fixed it in "all this time". Well, I had more projects to line up that included painting and I like to consolidate these things, so Mr. K was told to just chill out. Here is what transpired when I finally got my ducks in a row.

ROUND ONE
Parts
Ordered new doors for master bedroom to replace rotting ones.
Ordered new carpet for master bedroom (Mr. K insisted the jute carpet was tired)

Labor
Tuesday, Micah and his crew show up at 8:30 am for door installation. Mind you the temp is already in the 90's and will top out around 106. When one replaces doors, there is a long period of time when there are gapping holes in one's home. The crew also does some replacing of wood in other areas of the back of the house that have rotted. They finally leave at...6:30 pm. The doors look fabulous, but of course the interior needs painting along with the areas of exterior repair. My day consisted of one quick errand in the am, followed by trying to keep Molly from barking her head off at the commotion of guys and noise. It was intense. :freaky:

ROUND TWO
Gary and Bob...my favorite painters in the world!
G and B show up Wednesday morning to see the scope of work which will begin next week. As we went around with my checklist, we found some areas that needed further inspection....now it gets ugly.
1) crack in ceiling by fireplace in MBedroom (call roofer and check flashing for leak)
2) call Micah to replace a board by back door
3) hairline crack the entire length of son's bedroom ceiling as well as around door...this is newer construction we did in 2001. (call foundation repair to come look and give me a heart attack) :cuss:

BTW...as this door construction is going on, sarafunn is calling constantly from Austin to update me on her overflowing toilet that has flooded into kitchen, hallway and 2nd bedroom closet floor. She is moving out in 10 days and is dealing with a slumlord from CA. There have been some funny conference calls with her, Mr. K and myself. Attorneys do not like to converse with two women trying to word things just right in an email to slumlord. This drama is still unfolding (and probably molding because the slumlord is an idiot)

I am ready to go back to sowal. :drink:

Man, sorry this was so long.

Bring me up to date on your pucking old/new house!

House 1960. Built like a bomb bunker. 3 Huge pines fell on the kitchen end July 5 year before last. If house was not so sturdy, we'd be toast. But.......all is repaired, new 30 year roof, wall paper, paint, gutters, etc. all updated and better than it was. Thank you Mr. Insurance Man.
In 30 years I'll be in the nursing home (I hope I'm still around) and it'll be somebody else's problem or I won't know the difference anyway.
I do need to work on the landscaping tho. I hate those f'n chinch bugs

Kitty, you need a cocktail. Many of them.
Ameliaj--you crack me up.

I feel you pain, Miss K. Thankfully having our daughter's wedding reception at our home last summer fast-forwarded our renovations. Interior/exterior painting, landscaping, decluttering were done outside and on the first floor. So all of that looks excellent.

We had planned to have three children. Due to my infertility issues, that didn't work out. Our master bedroom suite is on the second floor, so Lauren has three bedrooms on the second floor which are totally cluttered with her stuff. The guest room is on the first floor, designed with Mom in mind because we anticipated her not being able to climb the stairs to the second floor due to our high ceilings. We also have a third floor which could accommodate more people but is full of all of our stuff.

I think I need to hire an estate sale person and help us get rid of a bunch of our stuff.
