Tropical Storm Lee - Double Red Flags NO Swimming

New posts
We got into some heavy wind and rain in south Alabama. Lee was moving at 60-70 mph according to the radio.

This AM when we got to the top of the beach walkover, the wind was so strong we had to get into a semi-squat to keep from getting bowled down by the wind. I felt like Jim Cantore!

WZEP AM 1460 First News just talked to Jeff Rodgers with Gulf Power. He says the wind gusts are causing problems, knocking power out as soon as they get it restored. He has just received word they will bring in additional crews from Alabama and Georgia. Of the 430,000 customers, about 10,000 are without power. Rodgers says the problems are in the entire service area and they will work through the night as needed to restore power. He says they expect to have some larger pockets restored soon and most should have power before the morning.

Walton Superintendent Carlene Anderson says they are evaluating the situation, but right now there will be school in Walton County Tuesday. The expectation is school will be open Tuesday. However, they do expect bus delays. Every effort will be made to run the complete bus rout.

Does anyone know if there is any flooding on Highway 20 east of Freeport or Highway 87 to the Alabama state line? I can't seem to find this info online. I've found the Alabama website that shows their highway closures.

Thanks.

As far as I know we didn't have a ton of rain north of us to cause a problem.
We experienced rain in Holmes County and heavy rain in south Alabama yesterday, plus tornado warnings and high winds. It was scary.

But the only problem for the kiddies returning to ATL today is that they didn't know how to open the gas cap door in my BMW. And then after they filled up, the car wouldn't start. The battery died. I work 1.3 miles from our home, so hubby says that the short drives I make stress the battery. Anyhow while the kiddies were on the phone with the BMW service rep in ATL, someone at Tom Thumb in Seagrove jumped the battery (thanks whoever you are), and they made it back to our home in GA. Car won't start, hubby is out of town, I have procured a ride to work in the AM, and then I'm gonna get a jump and drive to the BMW dealership in ATL to get a new battery.

So the storm wasn't the culprit.

Argh.

BR, I feel for ya. I hate when cars don't work.
