Waaaar Eagle, "A"!

Which, BTW, is not even a real story. You made it up, then attached a real writer's byline to it. Now tell us what that has to do with the issue at hand?

You are correct, that it was a made up story ( would think that you could see the tougne in cheek in that). Anyway, as I said, it is more of a Prof. Vs Prof. Is it WIDE SPREAD fraud, not sure untill all the facts come out, but I doubut it.

Looks like the prof. took on more of a load in IS coarses.

War Eagle, see you in TTown this year.

I really can't wait until football season.

Girls! Check out the new Chip & Pepper collegiate t-shirts. They're a little expensive, but they are so cool. They definitley have all the SEC t-shirts. My crew is getting them for this season.

So working for a large entity now, as opposed to a small agency, I learned the power of the Times. We used to work to get in the Sunday/Thursday Style Section and the Magazine. Etc. Now we have to really watch it with them. They're sneaky. They're really sneaky. They seriously buddy up to you and then boom...a story about the wind and the parade, a really nasty story about our buyers and how they have no style and just strive to sell sell sell- duh. Everyone follows what the Times says- press wise. We have one guy that you just KNOW is working on huge merger story. I could go on and on. It's just really interesting how the writers over there work. And I never noticed it until we really had to watch it with them.

Kimmi most of the press works this way, and it may not even be intentionally disingenous. It's not their job to give you good pub. It's your job to get you good pub. I'm sure sometimes it is a thankless job ... after all, you cannot control the weather, but if that was the main thing people took away from the parade, then that is what gets written. Chances are they like you and the people you work with, because you are nice and helpful -- you wouldn't be in PR if you weren't. But just because they turn around and write something other than what they asked you about, doesn't mean they were trying to fool you. Frankly a good reporter would look beyond the PR department when doing any story. Which makes your job extra hard. :D

But you are right about the power in general of the NYT and other major papers. Most of the people who work for them truly do make an effort to use that power responsibly.

Oh, and for anyone wondering ... just because a paper is owned by the NYT does not mean its writers have a pipeline to the big paper. The NYT owns a lot of small-town papers.
