Walton County to Host Its First Walk to End Alzheimer’s at Grand Boulevard
New Emerald Coast event will unite families, businesses and community members in the fight against Alzheimer’s and other dementia
MIRAMAR BEACH, FL – November 7, 2026 - Walton County will take a major step in the fight against Alzheimer’s and other dementia this year as the Alzheimer’s Association brings its Walk to End Alzheimer’s to the community for the first time.
The Emerald Coast Walk to End Alzheimer’s and other dementia will be held at Grand Boulevard at Sandestin in Miramar Beach, giving residents throughout Walton County and the surrounding Emerald Coast a new opportunity to come together in support of people living with dementia, their caregivers and families.
The new event is being led locally by Melody Joy, Walk Manager, who says bringing the Walk to Walton County is an important milestone for the community.
“This is more than a walk. It is an opportunity for our community to come together, remember loved ones, support families who are navigating dementia today and raise awareness about the resources available to them,” … “We are excited to establish this event in Walton County and build a strong community tradition around the fight to end Alzheimer’s and other dementia.”
The Walk to End Alzheimer’s brings together people of all ages and backgrounds who have been personally affected by Alzheimer’s or another dementia. Participants walk in honor of family members and friends, in memory of those who have passed, or in support of those currently living with the disease.
One of the most recognizable elements of the event is the Promise Garden Ceremony, during which participants carry flowers of different colors representing their personal connection to Alzheimer’s and other dementia. The ceremony creates a visual display of the community’s shared commitment to the cause.
Funds raised through the Walk support the Alzheimer’s Association’s mission, including care and support services, education, community resources, advocacy and research aimed at advancing prevention, treatment and a cure.
For Walton County residents, the new Walk also provides an opportunity to connect with the Alzheimer’s Association and learn about resources available to individuals living with dementia and those who care for them.
“Families affected by Alzheimer’s and other dementia need to know they are not alone,” said Melody “We want this Walk to be a place where people can find information, support and community while also helping us move closer to a future without this devastating disease.”
The Alzheimer’s Association is inviting families, caregivers, businesses, healthcare organizations, civic groups, schools, faith communities and individuals throughout Walton County and the Emerald Coast to participate.
Community members can get involved by forming a Walk team, registering as an individual participant, becoming a sponsor, volunteering or making a donation.
