We humans are not perfect in our cultural, moral and emotional behaviors. Yes that includes everyone with a functional brain. We have a small instinctive brain that is more honest in terms of survival in the natural world which is harsh in terms of life and death. Our big brain is extremely complex because of emotion and information (we are able to choose the information that is stored in our brain). Emotions are linked to wants, needs and desires and are affected by hormonal, learned and imagined factors. Emotions are linked to negative (hurtful) and positive (helpful) behaviors. We will never have perfect information or perfect emotion or perfect behavior. We will never have the perspective of another culture, another race or another person. Never. We are all hypocrites when we think we do have perfect information. I am a white male with my own perspective. I should not ever think I know everything about another culture, another race or another person. When we start believing that we know more than we do we become a hypocrit. We can have an opinion but that is all it is. I believe that the goal of humanity is to keep learning about ourselves before we even attempt to try and understand someone else. My grandmother taught me to clean around my own back door which means to be aware that I am not perfect and work to improve myself before worrying about someone else not being perfect. Human history of our flawed behaviors is important. Removing that history is not productive. Changing that history is not productive. I believe that we try too hard to correct our history but that is a mistake. We have to own our mistakes. Whether you like or dislike the Confederate flags and monuments it is part of our history and it has different perspectives for different people. If you want to remove them because they offend us then we have a lot of work to do in removing offensive behaviors that is in our American History. Maybe we should but in my humble opinion it will not help us learn anything from our mistakes and it is not honest in terms of who has been offended and will continue to be offended. If you want, need or desire to believe that you are a better person than someone who does not see this the same way that you do then go for it but your hypocrisy will be exposed which is normal and flawed because you are human
