True it's not a huge amount of money, but it is a huge savings. If we throw in your economic beliefs then it's not only environmentally friendly, it's economically friendly as that gas money will be in your pocket ready to spend.

50% cost savings on gas seems great. Assuming the cars cost the same, the maintenance isn't higher, and the resale value is comparable to a gas powered auto, it's a great investment.

Maintenance should be a no brainer. Engine to possible drive shaft then on to the wheels. Electric motors don't generally need a transmission.
